Unknown mass and sickness

please say hi to Ms. Sasha. She is almost a year old. Two days ago I noticed a small mass behind her ear. When I got home today I noticed it has increased in size dramatically. She is not shaking her head and is not making any sound when she tries. She is eating and drinking which really surprised me. I’m a little concerned she is contagious and spreading it to the other 20 hens/roosters. Any advice and treatments are welcomed.

is there a recent picture with the mass in it? I cant see anything with the current picture, its pretty blurry....

Picture quality is bad, so I cannot tell if it is an ear infection or a possible tumor. They can frequently get infections and abscesses from bateria or mites. I would try to use a QTip to see if you get any gunk out of the ear canal. You can use the QTips, hydrogen peroxide 1/2 strength, and some plain neosporin ointment to treat an ear infection. It would help to try getting a more clear picture. You can also try Googling or doing a BYC search for “ear infection in chicken,” and there are quite a few good threads and articles to read.

Is the mass hard/soft? Can you tell if is just in skin/fat or does it seem attached to deeper tissue or bone? Is it oozing or red or hotter than her comb?
