UPDATE: 7 eggs: 3 hatched so far -- due at 3AM on 12/31! PICS pg 6&7!

Good luck & good luck!!!!

I have ZERO experience hatching, but noticed, ummmmm "maybe", as far as did you take the chick out, so just wanted to relay that pretty much ALL of the experienced hatchers say *DON'T* open 'bator, but on the rare occasion people were advised (or did) otherwise, they took major precautions to keep humidity up, temps stable in incubator. Hot, wet towels draped over it, or misted remaining hatching eggs with a spray bottle of warm water, and were REALLY QUICK about getting 'bator open & shut. A lot of them did a "two-person" operation; one holding towel & working 'bator lid, the other grabbing chick (or an egg in distress).

Again, ZERO experience, and not advising opening incubator until hatch completed, but wanted to relay info in case doing otherwise. but try not to.

I will admit some of the ones that hatch all the time have including me in a emergency come up with ways to get chicks out or eggs in distress out and not lose much humidity. It still has bit me in the rear a few times but had to make a quick decision in order to save a chick. The big prob is being aware enough to know when the egg is in distress or merely not ready to hatch yet meaning yolk and blood not absorbed. When I have had to do it I did it with the realization that I might be opening pandoras box and might have to help all other eggs. Not something you really want to do as a lot can attest too. You have to be perfect on the timing and it can take over twelve hours to get a chick out of a egg successfully. I was up for over forty eight hours doing it with a hatch. Saved most but lost some all due to having to open bator.

well the humidity was 61 and the temp was 101 before i opened and the humidity went down to 60 and the temp stayed at 101 after i opened! the humidity went back up to 61 within 60 seonds after. Its not like I was careless. I am aware of the risks and decided to take the chance and nothing went wrong! The temp and humidity did not drop, it was quick and painless and you have to figure that ive had to turn my other eggs twice a day anyways
