Urgent, please help my hen!

RIP AGGIE.

I can't believe how horrible and defeated I feel right now. If only I could have caught this sooner. She died peacefully in her sleep last night when it was dark an quiet.

Oh no Aubrey...I am so very sorry about Agnes.

I thought about you two all night last night. It's so hard to lose a loved pet. I hope all your happy memories of your girl help to comfort you.

I am so sorry. I just read through and followed this thread. I need some kleenex. She was a beauttiful girl. And you did all you could do.

I'm so sorry about your loss. It is hard when a loved one dies.

I hope you can be heartened by the fact she died peacefully.

You did a wonderful job caring for her. Birds will hide their illnesses until they no longer can. I don't know that you could have done anything sooner.

I hope that in your grief you will be able to come to cherish the fond memories and not blame yourself.

I continue to offer merit for you and her. The chicks, also barred rocks, will get a special treat today in memory of Agnes.

Oh Aubrey! I'm just broken for you.

Like Alethea said, birds hide their illness, it's part of their (oddly enough) survival mechanism. Please don't be hard on yourself.

If anything, let Anges' passing bring you closer to your other birds in knowing more about supportive care and about worms and worming. What I've learned (the hard way), even if a bird just can't stand to be touched...touch them. Weekly, if possible, to access their body condition.

Life (and death) is all about learning and WOW what you (and all of us on this thread) have learned from each other. Just think how many more chickens Agnes is going to save.

Thank you for sharing her with us....

It seems I found one or two threads with similar symptoms and same outcome. Any 'lil chicken would be happy to have such a good mommy.

Thank you guys so much. I'm really glad I have byc- I don't know what I would do otherwise. I buried AGGIE this morning at 5:30 then came to work at six and have been completely out of it and my coworkers just can't understand. I'm so happy I have you guys here and you all get it. Today I will treat all of my animals with a wormer. Hens, dogs, and cats. It was a hard lesson and I'm sorry Agnes had to die because of it. These worms are stealthy and quick killers and this WILL NOT happen again. This is the first pet I have ever lost and I don't want to get used to how I feel right now. Thanks for everything, you guys. Seriously.
