Actually Miss or Ms. means you are unsure of her marital status but don't want to mistakenly call her Mrs........................ That's why most of us say yes sir, no ma'am.............

Interesting stuff. I learned something.

I had Turkish friends who would call me Mr. Don when
around other people. It was sorta nice. I'd always
call them Brother and their first name.

Positive cultural stuff is cool.

This is what I was told
Mrs=Married
Miss= never married
Ms= could be married or never married
Am I wrong?

I'm in Oregon now, and I freak folks out with the "m'am" and "sir."
It's too bad, I do it even when they ask me to stop. I just say I'm from the South and they forgive me.
That's why I think it's just cultural.

The differance is subtle on prounciation, but here "miss" is always never married, I.E. a "sinful woman" if she's had kids.

(not sure which words are banned so having to use a round about explination.)
