Hey guys, my little blue bantam rooster is in bad condition. Here are all the symptoms and whats going on, and I am stumped!

-About 2 weeks ago he got a limp in one leg. He had no visible wounds that I could see, but he was lying down a bit so I seperated him to make sure he could rest and heal. (His leg seems to be better now. He can walk on it, though now that he is sick I think with something he is standing. but not walking around much.)

-After having him seperated for 2 days and seeing his leg mostly better, I put him back outside with the other birds. Two mornings later I noticed that his comb/wattle went from a halthy red to a light pink. Since that day he has been sperated from the other birds in a cage, given lots of spinach and some proteins, and some grit. He is losing weight, and his crop is empty when it usually feels full. He is eating, dirnking, and pooping, and while he is standing around and losing weight he is not lethargic. His eyes are bright and he eats his food the moment i give it to him. I have checked his poop for worms, nothing there that I can see.

My biggest concern is that I haven't heard my little guy crow in over a week and a half now, which makes me sad. He has also had lice and some fleas recently, and he is currently free of them after weeks of treatments over the last few months. But He was a perfectly healthy bird 2 weeks ago.

Does anyone know anything I can do for him? I do not have any meds at home, but if anyone thinks I may need them or knows what could be wrong with him let me know! He's not just a roo to me, he is our favorite bird and very much a loved pet an part of our family, so I really want to help him get better! THanks!

No eye issues. They were a litle cloudy one day, and fine the next. no runnyness, breathing issues, and no sounds at all. And no I have never wormed him.

How old is he?

He may have a case of worms, if they are loaded up with enough worms it will drain the life from and chicken to the point of death if not addressed..

You can search for treatment with Valbezan, Safeguard or Zimectrin Gold. Look for Post by Dawg53 or Casportpony.

I use the Valbezan, mainly because It is given to about all my animals.

Hi. How is your little guy doing now? I'm not sure what may be wrong with him, but Apple Cider Vinegar (with the "Mother")in his water and Molasses on his food will help boost his immune system. There is some controversy about feeding spinach. You might want to do your own research on it and maybe offer him something else. Good luck. Hope he recovers soon.

I feed all my birds spinache without any problems I think you dealing here with a kind of protoaze infection which affect the liver and it is a treatment where you must be patience. To start gave him every day flagyl(motranidazole) tablets and make sure he is eating. sulpha drugs can also be added. Their will maybe come somedays itn will not eat anymore where you must handfeeding it. Good luck

-What is the controversy with Spinach? I have never heard of that before!

-I will try getting something to deworm him. But my local feed store has nothing for chickens wormers, so where can I buy?

-what is flagyl/metronidazole? What does it do? And where would I find it in the pet store if labeled as FishZole?

-can I give him any kind of antibiotics? Or does this sound like it is not an infection?

Of the three I listed above two are goat wormers and one is a horse wormer (Zimectrin Gold) .. Your feed store should have one of the three. Call and Check. I would hit him with a wormer and then do a check and see what he passes.

I believe the fishzole is found in the fish sections of pet stores, just ask for it.. It is used for certain types of infections.

My rooster has the same problem for the last week but I was thinking it was a nutritional deficiency. He's not eating much and has an empty crop. My other chicken are a little pale too and one has a shrunken comb and wattles. The organic feed manufacturer changed the formula and nutrition content a d a lot of people have been complaining about the nutritiinal deficiencies and shell less eggs.

So you think the paleness is worms, which is a parasite? If that's what you think it is, I will treat my chickens for a parasites with natural remedies.

How do you know for sure it is parasites? Should see worms in his poop?
