I have another idea for a contest, it would be more along the lines of an essay contest, but nonetheless a contest...

The topic would be "Chickens are...."

Members would write essays, on what Chickens are to them. It could be about how chickens supplement their livelihood, how chickens bring them joy and happiness, or how chickens are just simply chickens.

Essays would be about a page length each, posted on their BYC page, and then top "X" amount of entries could then be used as front page advertisements for the BYC forum...

The local newspaper has a contest for people who take their newspaper with them on vacation. The customers take a pic of themselves with their paper in some exotic location and then the paper prints it.

How about a contest of people wearing their BYC clothing in unusual locations. (Mods might have to screen the pics first

What about a contest for the "Greenest" chicken lifestyle (i.e: coops, incubators, etc. made from recycled items, what you do with the waste from the chickens, etc.). Just a thought I had today while driving, might make a fun (and helpful) contest.

How about a contest where once a month the Mods get to together and judge pics of the week from the past month and the winner gets membership?

I'd like to see member-written teaching pages on raising ducks, geese, and turkeys. Not as detailed as the learning center for chicks, but a good primer on raising other types of fowl. Perhaps an incubation introduction as well.

I'd be happy to run those (one at a time to make things easier).
I'll even come up with a scoring guide to make it more specific as to what would be good information to post.

I'm reviving this thread!

We've always got ideas to make BYC better and projects that need smart & responsible peeps to help out.

For example, the current BYC Chicken Breeds Database wouldn't be 1/4 as organized and complete were it not for the great work of msbear and allaboutdemchicks and their wonderful people and organization skills!

If you have ideas for contests or for projects to improve BYC, please share them!

OH, and what made me think about this thread? Well, I'd like to start a new contest to develop a BYC Chicken Coloring Book that we can make available for download. If you are interested in helping organize this and/or being involved please shoot me a PM!
