Waiting for 9/22 hatch date! I put fertile eggs under the broody hen!

Thanks, bigj! Congrats to you, too! It sounds like you are going to have a great hatch! Now if you can just keep SuperFluffy in the honeymoon suite!

I can't wait to get back home to see how things are going... I'm stuck in a meeting and then have to drive an hour to get home. Not to mention that I need to stop and pick up some chick feed. Speaking of which... What kind do you guys use? Medicated? Non-medicated? This is my first hatch ever, and first chicks ever, so I'm finding there's a lot I don't know - even after all the reading I've done...

TIA!

Thanks!

I use medicated, but I'm not sure what I'm going to do when the babies start roaming with mama hen. I will probably have to switch them to flockraiser to keep the hens from eating the chick starter.

I got a better view of the baby. (even got to hold it) It looks blue! It's a little crusty, which makes me worry about the other eggs. My mama hen was having a hard time keeping the chick under her with the eggs. The look on her face said "will you just stay still!"

I'm so excited for everyone who's got hatching going on!

I checked my broody's eggs just now, and there's nothing showing any signs of life. I am SO impatient!!! They're "due" on 9/23 and I hope at least one hatches and lives!!!

ZaneyMama......yours will probably hatch tomorrow. Mine were due to hatch tomorrow, but started today.

I now have 2 babies out and a third almost all the way out, it's fully zipped. I haven't seen the 2nd baby yet, but the shell was pushed out. When mama hen was moving around, I spied the zipped one.

So here is the first chicks photoshoot. It's an olive egger.
