WalMart rant...

When Sam Walton died and the kids took over, it all went down hill. I used to do stock trades for Mr. Walton. He was a great guy. He cared about his employees and making sure that many of the products they sold were made in the USA. Walmart has gotten too big. They are just a big, uncaring machine now.

I totally agree... I don't want the gift either! I hate the gift part...while gifts are great - Christmas just isn't about that. (except for that REALLY important gift that HE gave us!) So it is about exactly what they are taking away - Family time. Dinners together. These are the moments that you and your children remember with fondness...and that Dad isn't around because of stupid WAL MART's stupid decision to further feed the commercialism of Christmas...grr. I will pray for you and hope that the time you get together is valuable...I know! Have a dessert party when he gets home...

I have always hated walmart, hate there clothes, there long lines. The only thing about walmart that makes me go there is the dog food, my dog will only eat there natural type dog food, she's picky and when she was eating ekanuba she was getting tear stains so bad the vet wanted to do a $400 surgery changing her food stopped the tears. Our walmart this year is becomming a superwalmart so no 24 hour shopping this year. I go at 10pm and it's empty!

When my DH and I were first married he was a cook at KFC and they were open late on Christmas Eve, he usually came in at the end of our family party around 11 pm, that really killed him to miss so many gatherings, he has been employed by a local trucking company for 16 yrs now and is a diesel mechanic, thankfully he takes the week of Christmas off every year to be with the girls while they are out of school on vacation. My Mom too used to work for WM as did my SIL both made it VERY plain that they would NOT work on Christmas Eve that they would quit first, and thankfully their manager respected that!

I have said this many times before , Sam Walton created a store with hometown atmosphere the products were good and at a discount
His idea was that ALL should have the opportunity to have what they need at a good price i liked that idea.
We had a small walmart i knew everyone there and it had a homey feel to it i loved shopping there and would sit at the little snack bar and talk to friends.

Today we have the super walmart with the cold strange feel of Siberia and i know only a few that work there.
It's a mechanical money making machine and because of the bad treatment of the workers the faces constantly change.
I was told by someone who works there it averages $100,000 a day and they want to expand it

I rarely go there but some of the things like dog food and a few other things are very affordable.

EXACTLY!!!

The OP's husband can fix the 'problem' of working late on Christmas Eve by submitting his resignation.

Somehow, you have missed the point...

Your husband 'works' for a scummy corporation that changed the rules. I get that, but you should not be surprised.

If Christmas Eves is such a special evening for your family then your husband has a decision to make: Either suck it up and retain his job or Quit so he can spend the evening with the family.

Our Family does NOT shop at Wal-Mart. We choose to spend our money else where with companies that treat their employees and suppliers with more dignity.

Thanks for that advice....

My brother, mother-in-law, sister-in-law, and brother-in-law all work for WalMart in various positions (from Manager to the Floor). I think it is ridiculous the way they treat their employees. Christmas Eve is for families, I think closing at noon should be good enough. If you haven't finished your shopping by then, well too bad! Next thing you know they are going to be open on Christmas like they were on Thanksgiving this year. Sad really. They have taking family out of their value.
