WANTED: hatching partner

Congratulations to everyone with veining! We're half way there!!! Woo hoo!

I was finally able to attempt to candle today (brand new mini maglight) and I could see moving shadows! It was awesome! I might have one quitter, and the darkest egg (welsummers) I still can't see through, but the other 10 appear to be doing well!

I don't know if I'll candle again b/c I was so scared of doing something wrong and I read on here somewhere where candling could lower hatch rates?

Anyway, it's going to be a looooooooooonnnnnnnnnnggggggggg 10 days!!!!

Good luck everyone!

Yes, all my own eggs. This is my first hatch and wanted to practice on freebies. Hoping when I get the knack of incubating to get some marans. But they are too expensive to practice on.

Does anybody know about what age a Silkie has to be before she will sit and hatch another chicken's eggs? I bought Silkies to hatch my eggs instead of an incubator.

hey guys!!!! so one week from tomorrow we will taking them out of the turners and cranking up the humidity for hatching (60-70% is ok..right???) I am soo excited and scared at the same time. Hoping for healthy babies!!!! Do good hatching vibes really work cuz if they do I need some!!!!!!!!!!

Now, the problem I was just shown pictures of Mille Fleurs, Old English Bantams, and Sebrights. OH MY GOSH!!!!!!!-in love again. All of them are beautiful!!! What am I gonna do??? DH will NOT go for more chickens!!!!!! Need help or counseling or something!! If you'd have told me 5 yrs ago, I'd be all about chickens, I'd have said you were CRAZY, not anymore!!!! I am loving these chicks!!! What am I gonna do? This is seriously gonna be a problem!!!!

From what I've been reading 60-70% may be too high for your humidity - but again - this is my first hatch too so I don't really know. I've been running my humidity at about 40-42% (this is higher than originally planned, but I had porous eggs so I increased it based on other info I read) and I'm only planning to increase it to about 48%.

As far as your DH goes - just do what I did for this hatch. Build your bator in the laundry room where he NEVER goes, order eggs online, try EXTREMELY hard to contain your excitement while waiting for the eggs to arrive, and only after he walks up to you with an empty box marked "Fragile" "Eggs" "Live embryos" that was sitting with the trash,

do you burst with excitement and show him what you've been doing/accomplished. By then, it's too late for him to stop you and besides, how's he going to say "No" when he sees how happy and excited you are!
