*WARNING GRAHIC PICTURES* Cat, mouse and coon. YOU ARE WARNED

I wish I knew how to tan hides.

Silkie,
Hi y'all! The very least you can do is, skin the raccoon and toss the innards. the hide can then be sprinkled with an amout of curing salt. Morton's Tender Quick is fine and easily available. WARNING:Make sure you wash your hands and wrists down with Betadyne and wear Nitrile or some similar heavy non-latex rubber gloves. Raccoon habitat often includes habitat of the rabies carrying flea; proper sanitary handling procedures must be observed since the rabies antigen(present in the hemoglobin) is highly contagious. Use same procedure,in reverse, when cleaning yourself and dispose of all perishable items in a bio-hazard bag. Non-perishable items, such as knives, stainless steel tables and sinks, tongs and impervious flooring must be sterilized either by chemical solution or water@212F held for 20 minutes minimum.
Or to HELL with it and chuck the raccoon and enjoy your yardbirds like we all do!
All y'all take care!

I need that cat to train mine. Congrats on getting rid of the pest and the predator. What kind of bait you use in your coon trap? I have not set mine but I am thinking about canned cat food.

I use marshmallows and maybe a few pieces of cat food and hope the cats don't get caught. There may be someone out there looking for them. I already got four this year. I am now basically in the middle of the city and residential neighborhoods city though so these poor guys are being flushed out as they cut down the trees and put up housing devlopements all along the back of our property.

Yeah, I skinned one once with nitriles and the guy is all fat. I salted down the tail and still have it, but I real nice pelt would be nice. Leathery type. I'll look into cost of it and maybe a taxidermist too. Thanks for the suggestions.

Edit: I called around and it's bout 50 bucks... yeah... not happening. Plus, nobody wants them out here as quote "they are just large rats in the city."

Ill have to show hubby this one, we always get these on our pourch and he remembered one from a few years ago without a tail, they named it, lol they hauled it off, i doubt it would of made it up by you but it did come back we saw it earlier this year.
My neighbor 6 doors down mentioned coons the other day, ugh she said they are in her trees!! They better STAY there or she better kill them!!

I am gonna put my cage trap in my culvert. I doubt many cats will tread water to get food. I just gotta get a chain to keep my trap from washing away if the creek floods.

I use hollow point pellets and use 10 pumps. It's rated for 720 I believe? I really like the 1000 fps break barrel but I didn't have access to it at the time.

CNS = central nervous system, meaning a clean shot in the back side of the head. Flips them instantly. I have a skull of a coon I found as a kid for reference to make sure I am not going into just his skin.

Good shot silkiechicken! Royicus will be proud.

We have a stray/semi-ferel kitten in our garage who looks like yours. We've been working on "taming" her for a few weeks. Maybe she'll stick around and become a working cat like yours.
