Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

New to BYC from Seatac.

Welcome!

Is anyone on th e long beach peninsula and/or also have a bear problem? I built a second fence around my temporary run and a bear climbed it and ripped the roof off my coop a couple nights ago. Luckily I heard it and we scared it off with a little help from a shotgun. It came back later that night and ripped into the wire, but I had the girls on the garage!
I put up a motion light, two layers of hot wire, bolted down the roof, and lined the door with welded wire mesh. I put up the game cam hoping to catch a picture of the bear electrocuting himself but just got pictures of a deer, lol.
I'm going to go get a chain link kennel from my parents next week, but does anyone know of scent deterants that may work in the mean time? I go on duty for a couple days at a time and am worried about the kiddos!

Holy smokes! I've never had a bear problem with my coops! They like my blackberries out here but there aren't too many of them either.... The Twinkie idea sounds solid and disgusting! Lol

Edited- because my phone is dumb and I posted it before I was finished typing!

The bear are like rats around here! He's usually after my trash or the berries, but I've had 2 different bear in my carport and the young one was around during the day twice last week. My concern is that he knows they are there now. My hope is that the shotgun blast scared the crap out of him. Lol.

My collection now contains a digital scale that weighs in grams/kilograms/oz/lbs, Poly-Vi-Sol without iron, Chick Booster, Rooster Booster, and Nutri-Drench.

I currently am giving all the baby chicks (10 days old) Nurtri-Drench. Starting tomorrow everyone is getting it in their water.

Well that was interesting. To find the ingredients on Nutri-Drench you have to find it on a distributor site. The manufacturer doesn't list any info.

And what an interesting list of ingredients- two sugars, an alcohol and an ingredient that can cross react to piperazine. No wonder it is in the blood stream so quickly (alcohol) and gives the birds quick energy (sugars)!

BTW- propylene glycol not recommended for infants as the GIT isn't well developed yet. http://www.natap.org/2000/may/potential_safety051500.htm

I don't think I should look at the others- it'll scare me!

How many babies now ?????????????????????  :lau

Love you gal pal !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, and I am looking for 2 good saddle horses, QH, type, in the 3-5 year old area, NO ISSUES, such as special disease, point me in the right direction ?
Love ya, miss ya !  :hugs

Yep 3! No more though. I went and got myself fixed. Lol

I don't know of any young horses. But I do know of a few a bit older. Red is 14 years old big red roan gelding, 16 hands, then Lacey bay and white pinto mare, she's 14.3 hands, and is10 years old. Both in excellent health and very well trained.

But I will keep my eyes and ears open for you!

I just read an article on adding Vitamin C or Vitamin E to the diet to help with heat stress in chicks. Vitamin C helped the most and E was between C and no supplementing BUT the article seemed to think that Vitain E helped more fighting off disease.

I'm finding a lot of articles and scientific studies that point to Vit E deficiency as the cause of many types of different illnesses/neuro type problems.

I might be able - full family hard to schedule - but send me a note when a (weekend) date is set - I can travel around the peninsula. Thanks! Kelly

I understood your intention. Thats what the emotes help get across to people. Jokes, sarcasm, and any other message that people would ussually use body language to convey. But I can see how some people could missinturpret. I read somewhere years ago that 70% of communication throughout our lifetimes is non-verbal : o Facial expressions and body language make up the vast majority of the rest.
