Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Hey everyone!! First time (hopefully)trying to raise chickens in eastern wa (spokane)just trying to find my way lol. Building my coop this weekend, trying to find a hatchery or local breeder to adopt from(as young as possible sexed). Due to zoning laws only allowed 2 girls but trying to preferably find silkies. Can anyone help point me in the right direction?

First of all, welcome to BYC !
That said, I feel so bad that you only get to have 2 !
Did they specify no males, just females ?
I could not handle that !
I hope you find someone with nice girls to adopt.
There was a Eastern WA thread...someone may point that out to you.......there is also a ID thread that may be useful ?

At the end of the month I’m going to get four little chicks. I think they will be blue Australorp, New Hampshire red, blue laced red wyandotte Colombian wyandotte . The local store lets you place an order with the hatchery and then your order is sent with all the rest. Much easier than trying to pick them up at the post office. Especially if you only want a few.

Be careful there !
I did this years ago, and when I went to the feed store to pick up my pre-paid order.ALL of my babies had been sold to customers.

Seems when the big boxes of chicks arrives, they all get put in big galvinized tubs, and anyone can buy any of them, due to the fact that there is ALOT of employees, and they do NOT know which chick is what. If one person knows you have a special order, no guarrantee the rest of the employees know that.
Most of them cannot tell one breed from another unless the box specifically says "White Leghorns" on the box.
If the box has several breeds in it, they have no clue which are which. They never pick out the special orders and hold them in their own heated tub.
So best be there on the very day, the very minute that chick order comes in.
Hope they don't sell your babies to someone else !

What great advice there @Chickielady I am very patient with the Marans looking for almost 2 years I would not buy hatchery if I can help it off to make dinner chilie dogs here tonight

Well, I work and I can’t drive so chances of me being there right when they get in is about zero. A lot of times if they have people order a certain breed they will just order a certain amount of that breed. That way they don’t have a bunch of individual little orders. I hope it works out, I will go there later this week or early next week to place that order.

That litteraly just shook my world!! I haven't even thought about that. I'm still looking for chicks (silkies)have a shipment this upcoming week at the feed store. Waiting for the weekend to build more of the coop frame/YouTube every chicken video known with my daughter, but the brooder is good to go. I'm a bit on anxious at this point, and now worried about work and mixup of the chicks. Time to start messaging again and calling some hatchery (closest a 12 hr drive there and back)

Brain sort of kicked in. Can look here if you don't mind hatchery birds. https://www.mypetchicken.com

You can get sexed bantam chicks from them but boy do you pay a premium for it. That's because dna sexing is needed.
