That was why I did this, the slobs flick feed out all over so badly that we had up to 2-3" deep of pure feed on the coop floor...what a waste !
We have zero waste now, unless I over fill the buckets so food spills out.
It is super easy to gather all 5 buckets from various coops, and fill each with the feed needed, then put in the runs.
Even with all our slobs, I fill the buckets about 2 X a week...it takes a few minutes, and no waste.
The other fantastic thing is the buckets can be had for next to nothing...or free sometimes.
Any birds roosting on the buckets are going to find a plant pot lid the correct size or a bucket lid from home dept on top.

You have to get some net up over the girls until that eagle learns to eat elsewhere, or it will keep coming back !

They're back in the run. They were free ranging. They won't be doing that again for a while. I had no idea Roz was still alive when I ran at the eagle. I just didn't want that bird to think the pickings were easy in my yard or for sure he'd be back. Now, he knows to watch out for the crazy lady in the pink bathrobe.

Reminds me of the other morning a few hens flew out through a hole in their run cover. I had never seen an eagle at my place, just hawks, but I looked outside to see what all the racket was and their was the biggest eagle I had ever seen and never seen one that close. It was perched on the hitching rail beside the coop and then I saw the two hens that were out. I was standing on the porch beside the lawn that had the sprinklers going in my socks. After the lawn was dirt down to the chickens. After being in awe at seeing an eagle so close my next thought was if I run through the sprinklers in my socks across the wet lawn then across the dry dirt I would have muddy socks so I just stood there and waved my arms and said "shoo bird!" He just sat there like he was thinking "you talkin to ME?" I then came to the conclusion that I could wash my socks but I could not replace my hens. Just as I leaped off the porch the eagle went for a swoop and grabed a hen in his claws then he saw me flying, flailing arms, screaming down the hill and took off leaving the hen. Mind you this entire scene only lasted about 10 seconds. The hen had a wound on each side of her but doctored her up and shes fine. The eagle must be new to the area and he has since been back twice with no luck as the pen covers have been fixed and reinforced and they only get to come out when I am down there working. Oh, and my socks washed up very nicely.

I would give you a quantity discount--but I would expect photos of them growing up! LOL

I'm not even sure how many pieds, I have--probably 10+? As for the solids....I have four lilacs, one chocolate and one blue left. If you were to pair the lilacs with anything, I'd suggest the blue drake--that pen has a blue drake, chocolate duck and lilac duck. The resulting 8 ducklings were: 1 blue, 1 chocolate and 6 lilacs. I'm keeping a trio of the lilacs and probably the one chocolate.

Well !
It appears once again the sun comes out and all Western Washingtonians disapear from the forum !
I missed the roo list that rare feathers had and guess she is on her trip already...
Love the Lilac duck and the pieds !
I also had a great rip up the penninsula yesterday and got the 2 Wyandottes from Cheryl...what a great person she is, and I cannot even tell you all how cute her daughter Chloe is !
The ringlets of blond hair...beautiful baby girl.
I knew I had the right house when I saw the pony in the backyard pasture and a apricot colored silkie and a polish roo sleeping inder a bush !
The girls were complete ladies all the way home.
They went right into a seperate 'condo' but after a while I let them loose with the BBS marans.
And then the fun began.
The Black Cockeral decided to peck them...and I watched to make sure none of the birds hurt the new wyandottes...but the girls pecked him back, so he grabbed her hackle, and tosses her, she grabbed him, and hopped up and scratched with her feet... and proceeded to whoop his butt !

She had him down on the ground kicking fanny !
She then let him go, and he has not bothered her since.

The whole flock of marans are now treating the ladies like the older ladies that they are.
The wyandottes are happy...enjoying the vegies and food, and now are laying their eggs with lots of fanfare cackling.
So all is well, and thankyou Cheryl for the wonderful babies and hope all gets better for you !

I will post photos soon.
I have gotten a fart egg 2 days in a row must be from the 2 PBR's that I saved, remember I sold the rest of them.
Tons of work to do and another painting to do~
