Joe Mazur. Reserve went to an OEG from the Canadian Heather (exhibitor, not on BYC). Stinking Canadians!

They are really super people, so nice. There are more from Canada who come to shows, but they didn't make this one.... you can expect to see them at Stevenson.

That should not be a problem. All I would need is how you would like it laid out, And a good pic or drawing. I will do my best to make it breed correct.

Just make sure you make it have RED earlobes!

ok, of that bunch I saw Araucanas, Ameraucanas, Cornish, Sumatras, and Phoenix ... in my eyes they were ALL winners but then of course that's why no one asked me to judge

particularly enjoyed seeing the silver phoenix next to the golden phoenix ...

oh, and those laced wyandottes ... and the ?? Ameraucanas which appeared to be blue laced reds ?? some crazy breeding going on there, birds looked like they were wearing a crazy quilt

The standard SLW were mine. They were WAY out of condition and the female is not good- but her daughters just started laying and aren't quite ready to show (they are slow to mature). My cock was short a few tail feathers, but I wanted to get them to a show as practice as I might take one or more to Stevenson.

Perhaps there were some easter eggers as junior birds, but the only BLR bird I saw was a wyandotte LF.

I have a much easier way than changing the light bulb and you can have a very fine adjustment to get it right where you want it. I can send you a drawing and parts list. All parts are available at Walmart or any hardware store. Total cost is probably les than $20.

That would be Mazur. He always wins. He brings about 100 birds and always does very well.

Joe doesn't bring 100 birds! He and Heather carpool in one truck together, it costs them alot to get birds vetted and over the border. Do you know, although he brought some LF cochins he has only 8 of them total? He is very very picky and culls hard. He and Heather Hays do tend to clean up at the shows, and more power to them! Gives me something to aspire to,.

Not looking to pick an argument but ... IT would not have to be a vet (unless required by law etc). With the goat shows they just had members of the host club do the check. They were called "vet" check but were really more of a health check.

Here it is....Thai Curry Rest-yippee

1 tbsp Mae-Ploy or A Roy D Yellow Curry Paste (asian section grocery store...comes in a white plastic cup)
2 tbsp water, mash into paste
Put that in HOT oil. 2 tbsp...or more if you like.
If you have chopped onions or shallots...add that. If you don't have that, no worries.
Add one smashed up lemon grass stalk if you have one.
When it smells really good (1 min to 2 min)
Add meat.
let that cook a bit...then add
1 can coconut cream
1 can water...or some kind of stock
add vegetables etc. Just add what ever you have in hand.

Bring the whole thing to a boil adn then let it simmer until you are ready to eat it.
If you have "fish" sauce, you can add a tbsp...or you can add soy sauce or just salt.

The rice I brought is Jasmine rice.
If you like coconut rice, you can sub 1/4 cup of coconut milk/cream to the rice when you cook it and a pinch of water.
If you add pineapple chunks to the rice...you'll have pineapple rice.

Side sprigs are a serious fault, and many successful breeders (ie Joe Mazur, Sheryl Butler, Heather Hays) would not breed from anything with a side sprig because it is very heritable. This is probably why they do so well at shows.

For instance, I brought a bird with a known fault (although not a DQ) because the bird I had originally planned to bring went broody. She placed over Sheryl's bird and my cock although she probably shouldn't have,... the judge just didn't pull the crest back far enough to see the light comb. It happens. Some judges miss side springs, but most don't seem to because it's right there on top of the head. I was talking to Heather Hays (she's an exhibitor but also has a judges license) and she was talking to someone about their bird- had side sprigs and the exhibitor hadn't even noticed. She basically said that for some reason side sprigs always seem to jump right out at her.

I also had a bird DQ'd for the first time. I still plan on showing him at Stevenson, and we shall see.

Judges do miss things, and some judges may weigh one characteristic more heavily than another. Everyone has a personal preference, and unfortunately, as anyone who shows anything (horses, rabbits, dogs, etc) has probably experienced, an animal that wins one day may place near the bottom of the class on another day for any number of reasons- different judge, animal in different condition or mood, etc etc etc. For instance, my white silkie boy that did so well at the fall shows is not in good condition right now, so he got RV.

Mostly I brought birds I hadn't shown before as I wanted to get opinions on them, and to gear up for Stevenson. I had a great time, and the drive was so worth it to see friends and to share the joy of chickens.
