Wasp/hornet prevention?

Ok so I am building my chickens coop and I am realizing that there are a lot of places for wasp/hornet nests to be made. My plan was to spray diatomaceous earth under the eve's and the ridge cap to prevent this from happening but I can see the DE having to be replaced often because it might not stick well to the metal roof underside. So I did some more research and read that if you put bar soap under the eve's they won't build their nests. So my question is what if I put the soap on the eve's and then spray DE on the soap wouldn't that make the DE stick better or would it render it useless because of the waxy property of the soap?

Welcome! DE won't help you here! I've never tried the soap thing; is it mild soap, or heavily scented and antibacterial? Whatever, shouldn't be where chickens can reach it. I will wander around the coop and target spray any nests that develop, on a cool night, when they are all in. It's never been that big a problem here. Ground wasps, on the other hand, are trickier, because it's harder to notice their nests. Mary

I was told Irish Spring bar soap. and I know that DE will not help with flying insects but I was reading that they will not build nests where DE is present so I planned on spraying DE with a insect duster around the roof line and under the metal roof vents as a preventive.

Interesting...Before I recently converted an old shed into a coop there were always wasps building nests or flying around inside and out. Since we moved the chickens in they all disappeared.
