Welcome to my pond - Swim, wade, or sit on the bank

So, the orthopedic Dr. said surgery on Thursday afternoon. There's more damage in there than the ER docs saw.
Oh... :hugs:hugs:hugs Sometimes damage doesn't show up until swelling goes down some. A friend of ours was in a motorcycle accident several years ago - his broken collarbone went undiagnosed for 3 weeks due to swelling. I'm sure CTs, MRIs, and other diagnostics have improved since then, but still...

And that is why we have our babies when we're young. That and the forgetfulness that comes at a certain time of life. Don't want to put one down and forget where we left it.

Yeah, but I miss my little ones. Youngest GD is 6 1/2 weeks old and I've only seen her twice. I will get to see the girls this weekend. Not sure about GS - still has blisters from HFM disease. We were going to go see him first, but don't want to carry it back to the other grands.

Room - Sorry about your bunny. Those darn pets do worm their way into our hearts, don't they?
These two have wore me out today..:hmm
But I'll have a break for the rest of the week..:)
Bless his heart.. i hope he's over it soon! :fl:fl
Thanks everybody for all the warm thoughts & hugs!!! :hugsOrr this post made me laugh & cry. :hugs I'm considering going on a Haggen Das diet.

Its been 93* in the house without cooling off at all during the night & 105* outside. We just came off of our May Gray/June Gloom season so there was zero acclimation period for the animals. Poor Baby Iris is getting so big, so fast, & doesn't know how to handle the heat. We try to sneak him watermelon because the mean girls wont let him have any. He's been great about the kids soaking his feet though, so that's good. Its a little cooler today thank Heavens. You know Summer here starts late, but drags out well into Fall. Since its so hot, so early, I wonder if that means it will be over early too, or if we're just gonna be hammered down for the long haul.

PS. Lisa I love the name The Dome. :lau:clap
Haggen Das diet sounds perfect! :highfive:
Im sure you'll keep Iris as comfortable as possible ... the mean girls will get over once hes grown up some more.;)

:lau the older kids started calling it The Dome once it was up and we moved in. Sorta stuck..:p

Damn it!!! What exactly does that mean? Do they need to line up the bones & repair ligaments/tendons? Is it out patient surgery? Will they put the plaster cast on then or still wait? Does this extend or shorten recovery time? Am I asking too many questions?
The x-Ray showed the tibia is not lined up with the rest of the ankle, so ligament damage is a given. So what they'll do (outpatient) is plate and pin the fibula, then stitch the connective tissue around the distal tibia in place to make it all line up correctly. Then into a cast it will go. My ortho is a parent of some of my former students, so it's nice to have that connection.
I didn't ask about time, etc. My mind was too busy spinning the word "surgery" over and over to think of good questions to ask. I did ask about running on it once it heals, and he said it would be just fine. If I didn't elect to have the surgery, he said it would probably always give me troubles.
I have a couple very good PT friends who will not be afraid to work me hard to help me back to my activity level again.

Future running was my next question. I knew you'd ask about that. :highfive: This really sounds like THE very best scenario with a solid end game plan! I'm sure you're freaking out, I would be too! Just know that you have a massive support group behind you who is sending prayers & good thoughts & not afraid to hear you vent! :hugs:hugs:hugs:hugs

@Pyxis & @CapricornFarm (any other bunny people out there?) DD1 has been pouring thru the rabbit rescue pages (DH does not appear happy about this, but he will adjust, he always does.) Question; I've read that male rabbits are more difficult than females (sketchy, spraying, humping everything...) DD has read that males make the best pets.

Any input from anyone on this? I know a neutered male is better than an unneutered one, but that's about all.

My buck is friendlier than my doe, but I got her when she was an adult so I really can't say how much she was handled etc. And they're not house pets, so I don't know if he's out there spraying, lol.
