If she doesn't love it, I will! :D

Tonight was cockerel cull and selecting the turkeys that don't make "Breeder's Cut" for 2017. I held back two Golden Narragansett and one Narragansett hen extra, hoping to find buyers who want to breed.

I made the hard choice to let my last white hen go. I wanted to keep her but her shape is just not going to move my flock forward. I did keep 3 of last year's hens, and 3 new hens including a very robust Narragansett hen of a size I have never previously been able to achieve in a heritage line. She'll be with OG, along with the other two new hens. Scooter will get the three girls from last year. Tomorrow morning will be interesting, when Scooter and OG find themselves on the same side of the fence. I'll be repairing and replacing fencing inside the turkey coop, where they've broken the wire between pens.

I also held back a Spitzhauben pair, hoping to find a buyer in spring.

I need to build breeding pens for my Ayam Cemanis and Spitzhaubens. That will be my winter research and development project.

Are you processing or selling your culls?

I really need to build a couple of breeding pens, too. Still trying to figure out next year's plans and whether I'll stick with the AC or not. I've got 2 bigger ones and 2 smaller ones, so if size means anything, then I have 2 pair.

ATM there no set size standard for Fibro breeds in general other then a wide size gap. Honas are to be between 2-6 pounds either gender so size probably doesn't here unless AC has a standard now.

Hey WV, how's DH feeling?  Is he resting comfortably?

He is! He even turned down the 2nd Percocet :D I think he'll be ok until the nerve blocks wear off. But he's in very good spirits and feeling pretty good. I just got home, am exhausted! Why is is so tiring sitting around a hospital all day? Lol

Knowing her track record, she may go broody again... and I think Crash is laying again with her... so.... ;)

Dang, if we were closer... :(

Will probably want eggs again from you though... the 2 bronze girls are only good for boy toys as far as I'm concerned... my poor Narri girls are molting HARD right now! Yesterday I saw a few feathers dropping, today one poor girl has a bare neck and shoulders... :/

Nope, not for gender... but the smaller ones *usually* tend to be deeper fibro from what everyone has reported, and what I've seen so far...

Good to hear!!! :hugs

Rest... you're gonna need it... and always here if you need to vent, lol... I know how it is when a guy is on restrictions... :gig

I realize that.

Just wondering if anyone has noticed a gender difference in growth rates. They are 4 1/2 weeks now and no combs really popping yet. Of course, of my last 2 Orloffs, the male was the smaller one for the longest time, until he had a growth spurt and passed his hatch-mate up.

Rough time for a molt...its cold! Poor girls.

And thanks. Of course you'll hear my venting, but so far, so good. He cracks the nurses up... I just say "I have to live with him!" :gig
