Hey handsome...something growing on your legs. Ask mama to get the razor.
Bluejays are some mean birds. I've read about them dive bombing small chickens and then they get bored and move on...unless they find a meal. Home them bugs don't carry away any of your birbs!Do bluejays bother chickens? I have a couple that keep flying over my Seramas!!![]()
This is going to be a horrible year for mosquitos and bugs. I'm seeing mosquitos as big as my Serama chicks.![]()

Free range birds tend not to congregate where bloodsucking vermin are, tend to dustbathe more, and are generally reasonably fastidious. But those critters are everywhere, carried by wild birds, and there is no shame in finding them in your flock. My flock is plagued at the moment by scaly leg mites (the two and three year old hens on sale as soup hens). While a shot of Ivermectin would quickly make things right, I still gather their eggs so that's not an option. Vaseline is only marginally effective. I'm about to try permethrin laced Vaseline.
Worming is good for them, but be careful of withdrawal periods.
