Went to go buy ducklings and it was disturbing..

Thank you all for your responses. I sent in a report to the Hillsborough county website that someone had linked (thank you for that btw) Seeing those poor birds really did mess me up- like damn you never really understand how bad things can be until you actually see them. It hurts.

I was afraid to report it because it's obvious that nobody has bought from him (the ducklings were listed a few days ago and are the most expensive ones around) So I thought he would know its me and track me down or something. But I left a note with the report, saying to not tell him anything related to me or that someone(me) reported it. Hopefully they won't say anything but I blocked his number to be safe. You can't be tracked down by a phone number right??

Btw just some advice from what I've learned today, when buying from someone don't be afraid to ask for pictures of their living environment. The only good thing that came out of driving 25 min there (and being scarred) is that we discovered this neglect and its going to be put to a stop. I also hate places where they put everything in a box and bring it to you. Makes me wonder what the living environment is like. Like is it too bad to be seen? Or what?

!!ALSO IMPORTANT ADVICE: QUARANTINE YOUR NEW BIRDS EVERY TIME NO MATTER WHAT!! (the first time we ever got chickens, almost 2 years ago, we made the mistake of not doing that and everyone died from corzya)

I have now learned that, also. I am so sorry that all this bad stuff has been happening to you.:hugs

This is just awful :( I change my ducklings water and even food out 4 times a day. They get fresh bedding every week and don't EVER get to go in contact with any other birds (New/old) The one thing that bothers me the most is the puffed up turkey face :( I have had that problem once, it is mycoplasma, a respiratory infection. It makes poultry's Eyes have bubbles, face to puff up, sneezing, nasal discharge, swollen eyelids and sinuses, reduced egg production, and gasping in chickens, turkeys and pheasants, swollen sinuses in waterfowl. This is bad. I hope the birds there recover/get rehomed soon.

our turkeys are currently dealing with mycoplasma (sadly) but it looks nothing like that one. I think his poults had something else because there was no discharge or anything just very swollen puffy faces like a balloon :( I hope they recover and get rehomed soon too, they look so ill 💔

So I'm just going to say that is not always true. I bring birds being bought to a mutual location for biosecurity. I don't let random strangers come tromping around my property. My pens are very maintained and sanitary.

Yeah I know, that's why I said it's just good to ask for pictures of their environment, to be sure. I agree not every single place is going to be bad, but it is hard to trust anyone at all after having so many bad past experiences ☹

i would have taken them, cept them insiide till they are the healthyest ducks, geese, chicks, heck, al the animals for however much money and then wash them and sew the guy! i hate those people! sorry you had to see that! :hugs
Its far more complicated than that. These birds were ill, which means they'll be carriers the rest of their life and will infect every bird they come into contact for. You can't just wash them and make them healthy again. Not to mention at 15 a duckling, there were probably several hundred dollars "worth" of animals there.
