We're all hatchin'! Congrats, everyone!

I put them in on the 31st around 6 pm.... so since I'm having NO progress still, to make myself feel better, I'm not going to count the 31st as day 1, which makes today day 20, so SOMETHING better happen today!!!

Good morning, everyone!!! I haven't slept yet....

I have 4 chicks!!! I'm so happy!!! Congrats, chickenlittle, and hang in there Lux!!!

I had to help one of them hatch, and I discovered an AWESOME way to do it without opening the bator....The chick in question was incubated in a very tiny egg, and didn't have enough room to zip. I got two shish kabob skewers and stuck them through the wall of the bator. I used one skewer to hold the egg down, and used the other to slide under the edge of the shell and pull up. I was slowly able to chip away the shell, and when the tiny chick hatched it was obvious that it didn't have enough room. I'm so glad I was able to help, and that I figured out a way to do so without opening the bator!!!

The only problem now is that my humidity is up to 85% with the three chicks hatching in less than 15 minutes....do I need to worry??? The first chick hatched hours ago, so there was no humidity spike there....what do I do??? Should I be worried???

Hi everyone,

It's Day 2 for me, and although I've hatched a lot of chicks (usually about 66% have hatched) these eggs are ones I bought through the mail. It's the first time I've ever bought eggs, but I wanted some breeds that I haven't found around where I live. I won't know whether the eggs came through their travels safely until I can candle them. I sure experience all those first time jitters, though, every time! Last night I got up to check the temperature and it had spiked to 101 - from being 99.5 - 99.7 for several days. Why, I ask? Anyway, I got up several times to make adjustments. It never ceases to thrill me - the whole hatching process. I have 42 eggs in my HovaBator right now, and I'm just praying for 25% since the eggs come from 2000 miles away. I also have four different breeds - has anyone had experience hatching several different kinds at once? I'm wondering if the different shells might react differently to temperature and humidity.

I don't post very often. but I really enjoy the conversations and the enthusiasm from all over the world.
