What’s In A Name?

To your point @electrycmonk, it's too complicated to be one way in an online persona and then be a completely different kind of animal in live situations. Even moreso now than when you and I were surfing the wild west electrons of the early internets, as I have the feeling we're of a similar vintage. As rapid-spreading and wide-ranging as information is today, it behooves you to be who you are no matter what, unless you can completely and consistently anonymize your identity.

I take serviam very seriously. ... It is the oldest continuous all girls school in the United States.
Match that with a Jesuit College education and you get me, Sometimes conservative, sometimes liberal, most always outspoken in the kindest way I know and sometimes I just keep my mouth shut.
In other words an enigma and a hand full. :frow

Can we get back to explaining the reason we picked our BYC names, as it gives a little insight into who we converse with.
As we all share, so shall we learn from one another.

"Next to share?"

Okay, I think we should each nominate someone we’d like to know more about their user name origin.

I’m gonna nominate @duluthralphie to tell us about his user name. Even though I’m pretty sure about how he came up with it, I’d like to hear him describe it! :lau
It’s very simple. Long long ago in a galaxy far far away. A new technology was being born. This technology was destroying the online servers of the era. Dial up Internet was on the way out.

The “Prodigy” “America online” and other names I had forgotten were dying or dead. America online just didn’t know it until 20 years later.

I needed a new email address. I have no imagination so picking names and passwords is hard for me. My favorite password is “password” followed by “1234”.

We were watching the only true Christmas movie on TV. I immediately realized “Ralphie” was the new symbol of Christmastime.

I decided to be “[email protected]

But to my shock the user name [email protected] was taken. The internet company suggested Ralphie36327 or something like that, but I refuse to be a number.

So I added the largest city close to where we lived. Hence I entered the new age as Duluthralphie at a whomping 8mb dial up connection.

that’s it.
