What are you canning now?

Put a post on your local Freecycle. I done this for grapes and got a free basket full that I got to pick myself. Plus I stopped by to ask a lady if she had any grapes and she gave me grapes and tomatoes and green beans and soon she will be calling me for Muskidines(spelling ?) My hubby thinks I'm nuts because it doesn't bother me to stop and ask, all they can say is yes or no. Try it.

Hmmm...there is an interesting option I hadn't even considered.

I had a pear tree many years ago and people were always stopping by asking if they could have some. I know I never minded so I guess other people might not either.

Lets see, yesterday I put up 4 qts of green beans, they are starting to make. Today I put up 4 pints of pear preserves and made 8 jars of pear jelly out of the peels, and I have a big crock pot of apple butter cooking and the juice from the peels straining to make into jelly tomorrow. WooHoo I love summer and it's bounty.

What do the carrots taste like? Since they have curry in them are they like a spicy hot? How do you eat them later? & I'm new to canning so what way are you mentioning to cut the carrots? I have some extra carrots & was just wondering if there's any other creative way to can them Vs shredding & freezing for carrot cake.

I just finnished canning some grape jelly, some salsa, and spaghetti sauce.Earlier in the year I put up some rhubarb sauce, mint jelly, and some pickles. I didn't get around to canning as much as I wanted to this yr. but, theres always next yr.I like to give them as gifts at christmas.I enjoy them so much I figure I'll share them with those I love so they can enjoy them too and Boy do they! Sounds like everyone else has been busy too! I didn't realize so many people did canning. It's awesome!

I don't want you to feel bad because of the way mine looks. Remember this is your first year. Next year, you will be rolling with the tomatoes and stepping on the grapes.

Just listen to your MIL, if there is good advice there, and you will have this canning thing in the bag. Go ahead...post a pic of what you have done. Little or alot it takes alot of hard work.

ozark hen - nicely done! What's that pinkish one?

I love those squatty pint jars like what you've got. I recently bought 6 dozen jars from a elderly man off craigslist and there were a whole bunch like that in there. They're my fav jars because they stack well and are very attractive.

Thanks Jenn, my dh gave me a bag of red hots from his candy stash..

I poured some in the jars of apple sauce just before I added the hot apple sauce. I kept stirring and then after processing, I shook the jars to distribute the color. It makes for a very pretty apple sauce with a nice spicy taste to it.
You are lucky if you got a bunch of those wide mouth pint sized jars, I love them! I only have four....this year

We peeled all the apples outside at the picnic table....while fighting off the chickens. They thought we were out there peeling just for them. We have to keep the chickens in the run if we plan on actually eating at the picnic tables...those girls have no shame. LOL
