I posted it here. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/78434/what-are-you-canning-now/6750_50#post_9347432Well I cut up and froze the rhubarb thanks for the advice it saved me some work for sure.
Arielle - Same here and it was supposed to rain but that didn't happen. Over 100 in the hoop coop though.
Holy I just keep freezing what I can to do up later . it's just to darn hot to cook.
Once I cook with wine too. Sometimes I even put it in the food.I did a Cranberry wine jelly. Not to bad but since I don't drink it expensive to buy wine when you only need a cup or two. There are some left overs you just can give to the chickens.![]()
Happy what's your recipe for Watermelon jelly. I bought a jar in AL but have yet to open it. I love watermelon and it would be hard to have some for jelly. I can eat a half watermelon by myself. I have a recipe for watermelon jam but its' iffy to get a good tasting watermelon these days. Not like when I was a kid. Now all these seedless tasteless round things.
I froze some peaches for later use. I hope I can get some more raspberries though there are the fall kind aren't there?
Sonew - you don't have a pitter? Or is that with a pitter? Anyone here use a pitter?
So much to do, so little energy.
Quote: I know what you mean on cleaning! I can never get caught up. House, laundry, chickens, garden, bees, homeschooling my oldest, etc and I've been "trying" to get to washing the car for over a month.
I'm a meanie on the house though. I trained my kids that if their stuff wasn't cleaned up, I'd suck it up with the vacuum. Nothing is more aggravating than trying to vacuum around millions of tiny Lego pieces. I tell them the night before I'm vacuuming to get it all cleaned up. Oh, and I have to get the wash done so I can iron my DH's clothes for his business trip next week.
That's funny. As for kids picking up. I knew a woman who used to keep everything in a box and then charge money them to get it back. Not a fun way to spend your allowance I guess.![]()
That is my favorite pickling book. I got a second copy for Christmas - that is why I put it in the raffle. Great stuff in there. Share what you try out and I will do the same.I'd share if we lived a little closer!
Quote: In my experience "farm" kids are an exception to the comments above. I work in a public school system and whole heartedly understand where he is coming from.
My kiddos work (10 & 13) their butts off here compared to alot of their peers. It is up too each family to do what is right for them. I do believe that respect, resposibility and all other morals and values start - or should start - at home. But I hear you...I too worry about the changes I see.
You'll love it!! Very addicting!Just found this thread! Hooray!
I am making my first ever salsa as I am new to canning and doing up some blackberry jelly is what got me started.
Until then I was totally afraid of killing off my family by canning.
But I have found a local wild blackberry patch and I saw those berries ripening up and just couldnt let that go to waste.
Now, I just got 15 lbs of beautiful tomatos out of the garden and I can't see them going to waste either and a person can only eat so many dehydrated tomatos! LOL
Wish me luck.
