What Breed is this duckling. How do I know if it's male or female?

Unfortunately I know next to nothing about ducks, but I'm so glad you found the little thing! As for the noise at night, is it getting cold? My chicken chicks scream at me when they get cold. Especially at night.

The beak isn't quite right for a mallard derived duckling. I almost thought it was actually a gosling at first, but it's not. I'm not sure what exactly, but I really don't think it's mallard derived.

Someone told me it could be a silver appleyard.

That has got to be one of the cutest Muscovy ducklings I’ve ever seen. As to gender, it looks male to me, but you can’t be 100% accurate until it gets older. It’s so sweet of you to rescue it! He is most likely crying because he is lonely and is missing you when you’re gone. Ducks are extremely social, even as ducklings, would it be possible for you to get him a friend?

Oh how sweet, looks like a muscovy. The ones you saw may have been darker colored, this one would just have more white. The good thing is that they are quiet.

I agree that your duckling will need heat. It might be quieter then. You could give it a stuffed animal or a rolled up sock to snuggle with since it doesn't have a buddy.
