What breed is your broody?

This is Broody Betty.

SHe's a Sussex Langshan mix. This started two days ago. Today she growled and puffed up at me in addition to the stinkeye. She's usually very sweet.

My current broodies are 3 OEGB, 1 Serama, 2 Rouen ducks, 1 Pekin duck, 1 Runner duck, and 1 embden goose.

Plus I have an OEG with 9 EE chicks and an OEG with 5 OEG chicks.....too much sitting going on around here!

Black Australorp, Black Australorp, and Black Australorp. I had a brahma or two go broody before, also, but the BAs go broody consistently, often several times a year.

I've never given them private quarters suitable for brooding, so my other hens always sabotaged things, and I can't report on their success. However, they were WILDLY successful as surrogate moms to hatchery chicks.

Had 13 broody Araucanas, 1 broody "homemade" Easter Egger, 1 broody New Hampshire, 5 broody Marans, and 5 broody Ameraucanas within the last 10 months.

Many of the Araucanas have gone broody more than 2 times in the past 8 months, none of the other breeds but one Ameraucana have done it more than once so far.

I have two hens that seem to be broody right now - one blue splash and one black copper marans. Two of my blue splash marans went awol last year and came home with a bunch of chicks in tow so I know they will do it given half a chance.

We have another broody, let's see 3rd,nope 4th, nope but 5th broody of the year! I put a buff/golden polish egg under her and it should be due the second week of June!

My only broody, Connie, the EE. She's sat 4 times for me, and is currently on 10 eggs.

a buff brahma bantam- she hatched 3 eggs last year and would have hatched more. an incredible mom- i was able to put the chicks and her in with the rest in a couple of weeks b/c she was protective enough to keep em safe.
