Buckeyes and Delawares seem to have aroused quite a bit of interest this year and seem to be all the rage, which is a very good thing for these endangered breeds. There is a lot of new appreciation for the Light and Coronation Sussex, seemingly due to an influx of new bloodlines. Interestingly there seems to be a large interest developing in old style Rhode Island Reds and Barred Plymouth Rocks, bred up to breed standard and with good color and conformation, and in the case of the rocks, fine tight barring. Because of these I can't help but think that there will be a newfound interest in breed standard correct high quality New Hampshires in the near future - this may be the sleeper breed that will be receiving attention later in the year. In general the circle seems to have run all the way around, such that purpose specific breeds are fading, and the heritage or dual purpose breeds are rising, particularly those with the possibility of providing the better table fowl on a sustainable basis. Thoughts?
