What chicken breeds should I get??

Brown Egg Layers
A hybrid cross between a White Rock female and Rhode Island Red male, this bird can sustain egg production peaks of over 90% for months.

really is a great price. Nothing fancy, but excellent layers and gentle.
For small backyard flocks where you need the most eggs out 5-6 chickens, the productions are the way to go for sure.

Hello everyone! I am in my first year of raising chickens, but I'm loving it and have some serious chicken math. I keep getting a couple new chicks every once in a while and I want to get a more substantial number (5-10) next time I buy. I've been getting chicks from Orscheln's, Murray McMurray, Meyer Hatchery, and a local hatchery (Heartland). I was wondering what chickens y'all would recommend me getting next! I currently have a bantam cochin, a barred rock, a blue copper maran, a brown leghorn, a buff orpington, a production red, and a silver laced wyandotte (7 in total). What breeds should I get next? I only have one bantam, so I want to get more but I can't find a hatchery that will sex them! Also, my chickens are pets with benefits, so I'm not interested in meat birds. Thanks!!!!!
The Sussex is such a sweet one. I got 6 this year and by far my favorite. They follow you around and talk all the time. Then will sit with you for some petting time. I have Buff, Barr Rock, Easter Eggs, Gold and Silver Wyandotte but none have been so friendly as the Sussex.

I currently have 6 (B.Orp...SL Wyn...BRock...and EE) my favorites are the Easter Eggers. Great friendly personality. They all have cute little ear muffs, and all very unique colors. They are easy to find. Most feed mills or Tractor Supply will be able to get them for you.
Yes they are great birds, beautiful layers and beautiful coloring and feathers. However this breed (not really a breed it’s a barnyard mix) takes a very long time to lay their first egg

We love our Easter eggers and buff orpingtons, but my favorite chickens ever were Japanese bantams that we got from My Pet Chicken... even the roosters! We had one hen live 12 years. My youngest named her Mrs. Peep. She was seriously the sweetest chicken ever! Here’s a pic of her with one of the Easter egger chicks she hatched from eggs I ordered on eBay because she got broody. (Yes, she was very spoiled! :D She was also an amazing mother to any size egg/chick.)

My neighbors have some sapphire gems that are GORGEOUS if you’re looking for lawn ornaments.

I also really like Welsummers and Marans for egg colors. There was something about the deep brown and even the speckled ones that I just loved to see. I won’t have such a beautiful egg basket with the chickens I have now, but I’m going to include some photos from a few years ago. I have no idea why it matters to me, but I love all of the egg color variations! :D I just think chickens are incredible, and the fact that they give us eggs in such a variety of colors and sizes is amazing. Our friends and neighbors love it too. The kids really loved the tiny bantam ones. The fact that I have these funny, soft little pets that are also providing me with food is such a huge bonus. Maybe it’s just all of the lovely memories I have from growing up with farmers. I’m not sure. Chickens and their eggs just make me happy!
