What did you do in the garden today?

Sister just asked permission from the city to hoop one of her 8x20 beds. Her house, back yard.
They said no, it would be an eyesore.
WTF. Her grocery store a block away is bare bones empty. She's just trying to provide food security for her kids and prolong the season.
UN FRIGGEN REAL.
Is the yard fenced in? We have 6ft privacy fencing, so it's difficult to see much of what's in the backyard. A 7ft or 8ft hoop wouldn't be much to see. A 6ft hoop is impossible to see unless your looking over the fence. My neighbors directly adjacent would be able to see from their houses, but they are all nice people who I get along with.

Also, I do and ask permission later for the most part. A hoop is a temporary structure, for which the rules or typically very different. I also do not have an HOA, but we have township ordinances still. "Eyesore" is one of those ordinances that is very grey and open to interpretation by whoever is in power at the time unfortunately.

Yesterday, fence got finished, I pulled out the burned parts of the garden and watered the rest. I think almost every single garlic I planted last year is coming up successfully. I counted 32 plants. I've got a handful of collard greens growing, and now that I thought about it I do need collard seeds. I'll check locally.

About half the carrots I planted got burned, but the other half are small and green still. The spinach hasn't been growing really, but neither did it die. So it has impressed me. We got down to 12F at one point this month. Leeks and bunching onions are still alive but super super tiny and not really growing either.

Forecast says warm temps for the next two weeks so I'm thinking I'll get some more greens planted up. I've also got onions to plant out and bare root strawberries that need to get planted soon.

NO HOA. 6 foot privacy fence and neighbors have no problem with any of it.

She says that the city said she can't have any less green space in her backyard. UM. gardens ARE greenspace and the hoop doesn't stop that. This town she's in, I swear.
That would be so frustrating, you have to wonder what they are thinking.

@pennyJo1960, yeah we got about 2 inches last night, it's supposed to rain off and on for a week. It's plenty warm now though, 58 at 10:30 so the garden should have a chance to recover from the cold damage. My ladies are back to full time laying, we had 14 eggs yesterday from 15 hens.

Jerks. Is her backyard exposed? Can she hoop it a little lower so it’s not noticeable?

So I repotted some of my seeded starts last night. What I’m finding is that the starts are sending their tap roots straight down and out the bottom of the 6 packs and 4 packs I’m reusing to start my seeds in.
Do most of you start seeds in things with no holes in the bottom? I thought they would grow and put out more roots in the container before I needed to repot them. 🤷‍♀️ At this rate im going to run out of space very quickly ! 😳😔
I dunno, I usually see the roots spread out some too.
