What did you do in the garden today?

I also walked around the orchard today and looked at all the fruit. It's going to be a bumper year for apricots and plums. Not so much for nectarines and peaches. I will need to thin the apricots. The branches are already being pulled down.

While there are still weeds in the orchard. The clover is coming in stronger now. It's very satisfying. Hopefully it'll choke out the weeds next year.

I admired the pollinator garden for a bit today as well. The mulch I added has made a huge difference. Everything looks very happy and healthier.

Just an overall feeling of satisfaction and peace. My hard work is paying off. Finally. I got it!

I just ordered two different types of Armenian cucumbers from amazon, the stripe type and the pale green type. I decided to try them, since they can survive in hot climates. I had to put up a shade cloth to keep my Japanese cucumbers alive. I lost one out of three due to sun stroke.

I am looking forward to tasting them. I wonder why they aren't being sold in the supermarket.

I planted once pale armenian cucmbers. I didn't like them but my neighbors and my chickens loved them.

⚠️ Paper Towel Method for Seed Sprouting Using Cloth!

Have you ever sprouted seeds using the paper towel method? It works pretty well, but sometimes those tiny roots can start to dig down into the paper towels, making them harder to remove without damaging the roots.

I came upon a YouTube video which uses cloth instead of paper towels. He claims it works better because the roots don't grow into the cloth he recommends.

I had an old pair of blue jeans that the bottoms blew out. I cut that up into patches to use in my containers instead of using paper towels. I soaked some Opo and Bitter Melon seeds overnight, and today I transferred those seeds into containers with the denim patches instead of paper towels.

Although I have been somewhat successful with the paper towel method for sprouting seeds, I am hoping that this method using my cloth blue jeans will be even better.

Here is the YouTube video on using cloth instead of paper towels for sprouting seeds and why he believes there are many more advantages in using cloth...

:caf If anyone else has tried this modified paper towel method using cloth, I would like to hear about your results. Thanks.

I do something similar. I put soil in the pot, 1 layer of paper towel, water it, put seeds then another layer of towel and water it again. at the end I dust some soil on top of that. seeds will sprout through the towel and it will dissolve.

I'll be selling the excess in the coming weeks. All of these are extras.
I'll bet you will sell out, quickly! What do you sell your starts for?
Just an overall feeling of satisfaction and peace. My hard work is paying off.
Congratulations. Isn't that a great feeling?

This is my first time selling the excess. They're organically grown and all heirloom except two, one F1 and one open pollinated, tomato varieties. I was thinking $2 a pot. I don't want to be greedy, but it seems like a fair price considering the time and care. Thoughts?

I paid $4 each for the plants I got at the college on Friday and they aren't as well cared for as mine, or organically grown.

Than you. And yes, it's a feeling of absolute joy to see my many, many, many hours of physical labor and years of work actually filling in. I'll share photos once the sun comes out. 💚

Today, I'm just looking for seeds and cuttings to be sprouting.

That is interesting. What difference is there between your method and direct sowing seeds in the soil? Do you remove some of the seed sprouts for transplanting into other pots, and then leave some in the paper towels to grow through in the original pot?

I think 2$ a pot is a great price.
