What did you do with your flock today?

Yeah I can't imagine havin ducks in this frigid weather ahead for us!!!
Need updated pics of rottie babies!
Can do! They have been eating puppy food lately instead of just on momma…who is annoyed with them. At least with them nursing. But those guys have teeth now for sure. I weighed them last night and they are up to 6/7 lbs. and last week they were only 4 lbs with 2 of them at 5.

Don’t mind the flower on the floor in the background, I just made a birthday cake for a little girl. Her birthday happens to fall on Christmas but her mom celebrated a little early, which i would have to also. I was pretty happy with. I will attach a picture of that as well. The one of the puppy on the rug is chewing on a bone her momma had.

I used to grow magnificent hosta
So sad. I too have hostas around my trees, which are in their reach, and have put fencing around them. The deer easily reached over the short fence and ate half of them, so put taller fence. Chickens ate anything else poking outside the fence, and I have 2 little mischievous pullet who go over said fence and will also get high up in the tree. One of them also escaped out of my new 6 ft. fenced in huge run. Cockerel Ertugrul was beside himself.
Wow! That's one big chicken! When we went to collect our ex-batts, the re-homing place had truly enormous brahmas wandering loose. DH says he doesn't even remember seeing them. He stopped the car to allow them to cross the track! Honestly! He is so unobservant at times  It can come in handy at times though...
Maybe he thought they were turkeys? Lol. DH can remember specific movie lines, but not other things.
looks fabulous- even though I need a few more loads that I'll get to bumbai- Main thing is it smells fresh and I have a good & plentiful source.
Sure does look lovely. Lucky you to have a mulch source. The leaves we put in the run eliminated, or maybe just sealed, off the stinky mud, so not hauna anymore. 😊 Haven't heard bumbai in a long time. For non-locals, that means "I can procrastinate on this project". So glad to hear that Mochi is home. I know you are both happy to snuggle once again. You have the beginnings of another Waimea Canyon? Yikes!

Yall I'm so behind!!! I doubt I catch up here so please forgive me!
Me, too.

What a fun cake! The puppies are so adorable 😍

Yesterday, found rat poo in one of the nesting boxes! So, discovered and excavated all the tunnels under the board panels that were in the ground around the coop. Dug a 6" trench and placed flat, rectangular concrete pavers vertically flush with the coop bottom board. :fl The railroad tie plates seem to be holding on the other side. We have enough extension cords to plug in their heated water fount, and just in time. Forecast after Christmas is below freezing. We have flurries, light snow through the next day, then rain all weekend. Two hens are in their raggedy stage of molting. Do you think they will be ok with temps in the 20's?

Mochi showed up! After my third walk up and down our street calling and calling, I came home and he was in the yard sharking with the other cats. I am so thrilled as I was feeling sick and very sad. I'm not capable of handling the loss of any of my young kitties. My old Marley will be hard enough in a few years.
Shut my chooks up in the coop this eve. Nice and blustery out there tonight. Tomorrow should be the same.
Oh I'm so happy for you that he showed up! He's such a sweetheart I know what you mean, mine are both 13 and I daren't even consider what life will be like without them. I still grieve my first cat, a tabby-tortie stray who died 25 years ago!

I’m not really sure either. But I know I don’t have any Shetlands. I was thinking maybe olive because of how dark it is compared to the other, which is MUCH lighter. And when I looked up what it would look like, there were various shades of dark green. Honestly though I really don’t think my pictures show how dark it really is. Maybe if I took it outside to take a picture with natural light… 🤷‍♀️
Maybe daylight would work better. Gladys' eggs always look much paler and nowhere near a blue as in real life in photos either.

She was a real ham. My youngest was a little diapered micro-kid when we got her and we lost her around a year ago. Think she was my favorite of the horses.
I had to look up Shetland chickens. Such pretty birds! Any idea if they're related to cream legbars?

I'm so glad Mochi showed up! You once posted the most beautiful picture of him. Our little fur babies never live long enough as it is, but it's always better when they pass at a natural time.

Can't wait to see the sleigh chickens! That sounds so cute 😍

My youngest had a thing for hard plastic toys when she was small. Her bedtime cuddle toy was a hard plastic car for the longest time. She wanted a pet dinosaur and that's all she ever asked for for gifts...so one year I found these big, hard dinosaur toys that moved and made noise and we started buying her one every year. She was sooo thrilled! Turns out they were limited editions and they only made them for one year, then the next year they'd make a new design. Now the old ones are worth some money! Of course hers are all broken to some degree from hard play, but she still keeps them all lined up on a shelf and can tell you the current cost of each 🤣❤️
Shetlands are believed to be descended from araucanas mated to local chickens so they certainly share ancestry with cream legbars. The romantic story is that Shetlands are descended from birds that made it ashore from Spanish galleons shipwrecked on the islands in the 1500's. Whether it's true or not they're very hardy birds. They're not a breed but a 'landrace' chicken so evolved to deal with harsh local conditions. At one point, only a few years ago, the 'breed' was down to just 70 birds on Shetland and even less of the other smaller type on Foula.
