What do people think about setting up some sort of BYC "egg swap"

I had some shipped to me from AL and I am in MS and it was $7.50 for shipping a dozen and they were very well packaged. I think it depends on the box and so forth too.

If I could have used a flat rate box to send my eggs to Jill in Nebraska, it would have cost I think 8.95, but because I couldn't get them in with sufficient padding, it cost $10.20 to send priority mail, which is the preferred method. I swear, I think they treat it better if it does NOT say eggs on the box. I have special stickers I put all over it that say "EXTREMELY FRAGILE: DO NOT SHAKE, CRUSH OR DROP! THANK YOU!" No eggs have ever been cracked or broken that I've sent, however, just shaking can damage the aircells beyond hope, if they aren't kind to the package. It's always a gamble, but I've had excellent hatch rates with eggs sent to me from several different states with different packing methods.

I think this is a wonderful idea! There are so many breeds I'd love to have but can't find around here.

Just a suggestion, I think it would be a good idea for folks who have eggs to trade to mention that in their signature so that even when this thread is gone the trades can continue. Something like -

Eggs I have to trade= (list of breeds)
Eggs I want=(list of breeds)

But, of course, it would need to be kept very short.

I think this would be a nice addition to our forum.

I just updated mine, is that what you mean? I have not really narrowed down what I might be interested in yet. Just depends on what is available I guess. But I did list what I will have so far.

That is true. I may edit mine and try to make it as short as possible. Did not think about everyone having that info on theirs might overload something.

One other thing that people who have never sent eggs before might want to consider is using the delivery conformation. It is not a tracking number but it does have to be scanned when the package is delivered so it hold the PO with a tiny bit more resposibility. I have had a lot of deliveries this year and they have all arrived other then the one that did not use conformation. I am waiting for another large set of eggs that is currently been on the road for a week now, I dont think they used conformation either. It is still not a gaurentee that you will get them but I think it gives you a better chance. Jenn

yes that is a good idea and I will do that tomorrow I hope they are good eggs I have not tryed to hatch any (no bator ) Is there any way to tell otherwise?
