What do you all think about Euthanasia?

That's why I was mildly surprised when you came back at me with quotation marks..... How dare you! lol

I simply meant that while I disagree with your opinion, I would fight a war to protect your right to believe how you wish, and your right to express it.

I thought that meant I was on your side.....

That would be my interpretation of your words.

As a previous post stated we as a nation take time to execute criminals in order to make sure we actually take the lives of the guilty ones. does not always work, that being said I have stated here before perhaps if you wish to "die with dignity" then make sure the paper work is in order for no "excessive" (to each their own interpretation) measures to be taken with life extending measures. that also means no feeding tube/IV fluids. if you wish to end your life due to a long disease talk to your doctor before you get to that point and then when you choose stop food and water. that is LEGAL in every state, by the end of the week odds are you are dead. Sorry no short cuts, but you made the decision, no one else and you don't actually have a "suicide" assisted or otherwise but you suffer no more and that is the whole point correct? I for one think 2-7 days suffering if you have been suffering for several weeks or months is not asking too much if you lasted that long. Why do I feel that way? I don't want a person making the decision for me that I want to die, and also if I wish to I don't want to ask someone to kill me (that's what I feel and it's just MY feelings that it's murder by doctor instead of by cop). You may not agree but you are entitled to your opinion as am I.

Quote: This isn't about criminals or capitol punishment, it's about having a choice in how we die and whether someone who helps you go should be considered a criminal.

If this thread was about capitol punishment..... Are there a few innocent people on death row? Probably. But no society is perfect, and at this time it's the best system we have. Every person sitting there on death row was tried and convicted. In my opinion they deserve a very short stay there. Am I harsh? Yes I am. But I totally disagree with any delay in carrying out the sentence. I can't afford to see a doctor and I work like a dog every day. Why should some convicted killer be taken care of on my dime?

Anyone who doesn't like our laws and the way we do things are invited to visit some of the countries I've been and see if you like theirs better.

but anyway... back to the subject; What do you think of euthanasia?

I totally disagree with Euthanasia, I have a faith in God, and I beleive no one has the right to take a life, even your own.....
I was going to stay out of this thread. It hits very close to home for me. When you have watched someone you love deeply slowly forget who you are and beg you every single day to help them end their pain...then I'd be more inclined to think you'd made an informed decision. It's easy for someone to say "Oh I'd never do such a thing." when they've never had to go through it themselves.

Did you grow into a more loving and caring person by witnessing a loved one die? I have and had they asked me to end their life I would not have done it but may of asked someone who does not object.

The government has no business in this area of our lives and truth is most people that are on hospice die from the drugs used to manage the pain anyways, if they are not on drugs most likely they are not in pain. I tend to think that in illnesses such as Alzheimer's' that it is much more painful for the loved ones.

If the government was to have no part in the whole assisted suicide thing, then it would be perfectly legal to assist someone who is dying and wishes help.

In the early stages of Alzheimers you are quite aware of what is happening. In Parkinson's you are not only aware but you can feel the changes.

Most third world countries seem to manage with AS. If I remember my history correct the eskimo tribes would set the old and weak adrift on an iceburg for the polar bears.

Most people do not want to kill themselves in the early stage though.
