What do you guys recommend as a brooder?

Indoor rabbit cages are great because they have a top door for ease of cleaning, and a side door for interacting with the chicks without scaring them by reaching down from above. I wrap a sheet around 3 sides while they are tiny to block any drafts.

I like crates. I line mine with an old feed bag, making sure to run it up the sides and secure with some zip ties.

Then I add a deep litter bedding, and it’s good to go for a few weeks.

I like to have my chicks outside during the day, either in the run or a pen. Expose them to bacteria, build immunity and less dust and mess in the house because they only use the brooder to sleep With broody chicks I found that I can take them out as early as day 1, while brooder chicks need up to 3 weeks to grow enough feathers to stay outside in late spring/summer/early fall weather.
