What do you think of the new BYC platform?

I'm still trying to weigh all the trade-offs BYC had to make. I realize we had outgrown the old platform, but I don't know if everything we lost is due to the new platform, or to make room for all the new bells and whistles that were asked for.
I think if I had known how drastic all the changes would be, instead of focusing on what features/improvements we wanted to see BYC add, I would have focused on everything I loved and wasn't prepared to sacrifice.

Oh, I can click on them. Earlier this morning there were some posts and I actually commented on one of them, now they are all gone and there is nothing to see.

I noticed a few people commenting on the "Private" threads in the forum (see above). I don't think they're actually private in the sense that viewing is restricted, I think it just means that posting isn't open in them. Can anyone confirm that that's correct? I'm definitely able to view them.

Oh, they are private. Of course, you are able to view it, just not the common member.

If your screen is showing that this forum is TOO WHITE then you need to adjust the brightness and contrast on YOUR MONITOR. The white levels are the same from the old site, you probably haven't fiddled with the buttons on your monitor in ages.

I think it is more a poor judgment of colors, that bright blue every where will make everything look off. As for adjusting the brightness and contrast, why should we have to do this every time we log on and off this site? If we adjust our monitors to this site then every other sites on the net is way to dark.

For those of us who Swap, it is frustrating as heck that our member pages take so much work to display. Some members are just not good at figuring out how to post links, they also get confused trying to find member pages (now called 'articles'

). Please consider relinking our member pages under our name on each post as it was before. I loved being able to see members farms, chickens and coops when they mentioned them.

I'm a 50/50 like/dislike so far. I love technology and using the latest and greatest, but there are some definite bugs that need attention.

1. Let me use my browser's spell check! It is so much quicker and efficient than that supplied with this forum software.

2. Make it easier to find members pages.


3. Perhaps simplify some of the most used features so older/less computer savvy members don't get discouraged.

4. Please bring back the auctions as before. Even though I have yet to buy or sell anything there, I browse it daily.

Turning off advertising works for GFM! Hurrah! It perturbs me a bit that someone can subscribe to my avatar and follow my movements through the site. It seems like stalking...

Not sure about GFM's but I know PPM's can turn off ads. Go to your profile, select edit account details and scroll all the way down, the last option is turn off advertising.

I dont' have a problem with the ads - I realize that BYC needs advertisers to help pay the way for BYC. What I DO have a problem with is the reviews on the right side. They are very distracting and for the life of me, I cannot figure out what their purpose is? This really needs to GO !!!

It seems like it, doesn't it? I don't like the "stalking" part....They really need to delete that kind of "stalking". I don't see anything the benefit us unless someone is very zoned on someone.

Same here. After a few days and slow connection in sandbox, I gave it up. I knew that I wasn't going to like it.

I also LOVE the learning Center.... That was always the one thing that bugged me about the old format- it had no official educational articles ready and viewer friendly... I respect that people do what they want with their chickens but i always worried about a newcomer who viewed a forum post and followed some kooky advice ( I have read plenty of em') and had a negative outcome because of it or even worse , spread the misinformation on to someone else..
Now its official they have separated opinion from fact by placing educational info separate from the forum
