What do you use to store your feed bags in?

I just store my feed in one of those big plastic totes. They do stretch out if you fill it all the way so it makes it hard to snap shut, but with effort it does close....... although probably not too well seeing how it's been invaded by earwigs now! A ton of em'! Should I be worried?

I'm planning on just using plastic totes once my chicks move outside to the coop. I've kept my horse feed in 18 gallon totes in my barn for years and never had any problems so I figure the chicken food should be fine too

An petrol gallon drum works well. I use a helicopter fuel gallon drum emptied the rest of the fuel out. Cut the lid of the top left a bit of a lip on the lid. The bang out that lip abit with a hammer so it then fits on the top of the drum as a lid.then just wash and rinse it all out with detergent.and let dry.

Because I live in a hot, humid climate and am concerned about feed quality deteriorating in the heat and about mold growth we just decided that our ugly but functional porch fridge* is not going out to the side of the road** in next week's move but is going to be stowed in the back of the workshop with the intent of using it as a combination egg fridge and feed fridge once we build it a new "porch" attached to the new coop.

It should be quite vermin-proof and mold-free.

*Until I moved to the south I didn't know about porch fridges. Very handy for holiday leftovers and garden surplus.

**In my area there is no need to haul a used appliance to the dump. Put it by the road with a sign that says "It Works" and someone who wants a porch fridge will pick it up within a few days.

Yeah I live in a hot humid climate also. Darwin Northern Territory Australia.i just have my drum in the shade. No mould no heat. The feed stays fine.but yeah fridge sounds okay I spose.

We were lucky to inherit someone's old coop building. It is 14' x 7' with a slanted roof and we are currently redoing the whole thing. We will have 6 chickens, so plenty of room.

What I'm curious about is, do you store your feed inside your coop? What do you store your feed in so it doesn't attract other animals and is secure?

I have a gang box. It has everything in it. Feeds for chicks and adults, pine shavings, bucket, brush to clean containers, everything chicken. It sits right outside the run I love it!

I use metal garbage cans. Pretty cheap at auctions around here. Usually pretty banged up but as long as the lids fit tightly who cares???

I have a Vittles Vault, I'm pretty sure the 40# size, that we had on hand. It holds 50# of chicken feed, at least the small crumble kind(Purina Flock Raiser is what I have in there right now).

I've also stored feed/scratch/wild birdseed and many other commonly used bagged items here on the farm, in old Tidy Cats buckets...They make excellent laying buckets too. Mice haven't chewed through any of them yet, so I'd say they're pretty durable. Probably would need 2 for 50# though.

Oh my gosh, we have one of these for the dogs' food! I didn't even think about using one for this.

I didn't think about keeping it in a fridge. We do have one in our garage and it does get awful humid here in the summers. Thanks for the suggestions!

Oh yes,I put out a washer and fridge here one night and they were gone the next morning! Super convenient! I actually scored some coop windows during the town cleanup days as well! LOL
