What do your neighbors think about your chickens?

My neighbor used to complain about my roosters. How they would sing a competing crowing competition every morning at dawn. She would complain and complain, even though I told her if she didn't like it then she should move out of the country.
What did stop her complaining about the roosters was pretty simple. I got a donkey. You can hear him daily, every morning, competeing with the roosters at dawn, for houses down.
Sudenly, no more rooster complaints.

I am blessed with good neighbors. They are far enough away that the noise is minimal. My elderly neighbor next door wishes they would come into her yard more so she can watch them.

I fall into the don't know, don't care group. My co-workers are more bothered by my chickens than my neighbors are, and they get free eggs! Let them think me crazy, I figure it is really none of my business what other people think of me anyway, lol.

My chickens are going onto the allotment (yes I have finally ordered it) there are 2 chicken coops on the left hand side and one on the right hand side all with cockerals so no complaining there.

No problems here. . . I don't live in a neighborhood (thank God). I live on 56 acres on a road where 4 other homes have at least a few chickens. One more neighbor says he's getting chickens eventually.

We have 3 Acres and we have a "Chicken Yard" area surrounded with perennials and flowering bushes and evergreens. We have grass planted in the Chicken Yard. Chickens keep it mowed and keep the weeds out of the plants. They don't disturb the plants that are well established. They make a beautiful sight. Most of the time they are hiding from the Sun.

We have a "pooper scooper" and we use it daily. NO smell, no evidence of poop. We do the same in the barn. We want it clean for ourselves too.

We don't hear a word from neighbors...except one. She brings her little grand daughter to visit. We have all colors all ages Silkie Chickens. These neighbors NEVER saw such beautiful chickens. And she lived on a farm. We are all set. Sorry about your situation. Regards, Aria

Dont listen to them! If it makes you happy it shouldnt matter what they think! People think im nuts cuz im an 18 year old girl who talks to her chickens more then she does people, I just like their company better! I take my chickens for car rides, and to petsmart and they love it! I spend more time in my chicken coop then i do in my house! the truth is that they will never understand until they have some of their own, people think chickens are dumb and dirty animals but mine are cleaner AND smarter then most the people up town! They dont realize that they all have their own personalities and quirks. I sit out with my silkies everyday in the middle of our yard and brush them and talk to them, and i live in neighborhood! i have had complaints but i think it helps to actually educate the people about the birds and a few fresh eggs their way doesnt hurt! But i have never had anyone thresten me about my birds, personally i think thats one of the perks of being crazy! The neighbors are to afraid of what ill do to them if they ever hurt my babies! Im a pretty easy going person but ive shot one of my own dogs for killing my chickens so i wouldnt have any regrets of shooting anyone elses that hurt them! And those neighbors that think your crazy is even beter! Now you can mess with them Id make faces at them lol but then again i really am nuts! But with your neck injury you probably cant shoot... ive got a high powered sling shot! thatll sting enough to keep that dog away without seriously hurting it lol

or if you live anywhere near indiana you just call me up and ill have a word with your neighbors! the last person who complained about my birds moved out last month

My one neighbor has chickens (and last I new still had at least one peacock) so they don't mind, the other one right next to us formally had chickens and turkeys (apparently when I was a little kid, I don't remember them) and they built our coop, gave me an incubator and we give them eggs

. One of the other neighbors (farther away) gave me a whole bunch of egg cartons when I got started and called us up awhile back to warn us they had seen a fox. Besides those neighbors (who are a fair distance away) I don't care about the others thoughts, they are too faraway and we really don't talk to them.

Are roosters illegal there? If they're legal the police will tell her to quit bothering them. If illegal, I wouldn't get one.

You could let her know that if her dog comes over to eat your chickens you'll call animal control. Or you could tell her you'd be within your rights to shoot the dog.

Roosters are legal. We can have 100 chickens per acre of grazable land. We are allowed livestock as well. We wouldn't purpously go out of our way to upset anyone. We like to keep to ourselves as much as possible, but we are friendly. We do help out a few neighbors around here with baby/pet sitting. We've never ask for favors in return.
