The "Point" of the Original Posting was education for the purpose of a productive adulthood.

The "Point" of the Original Posting was that "Social Engineering" does NOT BELONG in the Classroom.

The "Point" of the Original Posting was that Language Arts, Math, Science, and such DO BELONG IN THE CLASSROOM.
(and that doesn't matter whatever a student's heritage may be.)

to be a productive adult one must also be made aware of other cultures

his point is moot because he is leaving out a huge part of becoming a functional adult by exposing the children to things they most likely will not learn from home,

this includes sociology, history, social science, sex education, home economics, shop, and the arts

Well, as I read the original post, it also said things about not having cultural clubs. I have always enjoyed going to clubs that taught me about others. To ban or limit these interactions would limit a lot of beneficial experiences of all.
Productive adults also need to have tolerance for others, therefore there is a need to have interactions and studies of other cultures and traditions.

Its funny but he says "The only identity I care about, the only one this school will recognize, is your individual identity."
But the reast of the message seams to say everyone should be alike and we will not tollerate people being diffrent.

Kristy, I agree with some of what you said but I must say that the Native American Culture has not really done anything for the Indians really but keep them living on reservations and from adapting to the modern world. It is great in theory but not practical just look at the statistics of the reservations compared to off reservation.

The worst thing in recent history that has been done to the Indians has been at the hands of their own tribal elders, one I can think of is the selling of the reservation land and timber in southeast Alaska they put up a whole Island of timber for collateral and the elders defaulted on the loan and spent the money foolishly, the people never seen a dime and the Bank of Seattle foreclosed on the timber. There was a similar incident in Klamath Falls a while ago and the Bureau of Indian Affairs had to buy back the land from developers.

Like I said, I do agree with some of what the author of the speech is getting at - 'the point' as you put it - but it is presented in a way that is exclusionary and would not adequately prepare our children to work and live in a world that is as diverse as the one we are in. It also sounds like this 'school' would not have the support and resources that are needed by some children (for very legitamate reasons) so that they, too, can learn and become sucessful adults.

That is a very good point.

Same here, we're not all the same nor will we ever be. Ignoring other cultures is pointless, he is making America look superior to other cultures. You can't ignore cultural differences, it makes us who we are. I don't agree with the no cultural clubs thing... It is good to know how other people live their lives.
