:: OG UPDATE ::

Took a couple of pics of her healing wound. Stick them on here for your viewing pleasure.

I call my treatment the “wipe and swipe” where I wipe it with the hibiclens and then swipe the silvery stuff on it.

It looks like it’s gotten smaller but it’s still very much a hard scab

:rant

It looks SOO much better than it did! :clap

I agree! I mean even just from the 8 days ago before/after, it looks a lot smaller and virtually no irritation.

Also super hard though. Like I am worried that if it doesn’t heal any faster than currently is, Doc is going to want to pluck that scab (as was done with the others) and I worry another stitch or two will be needed. I know she said that sometimes skin wounds on ducks can take a while because of their oils and what not but I’m like dang... the other one is completely healed and if it weren’t for the difference in feathers, you’d hardly notice anything was ever done there. This one... well it’s where the black hole of doom was so I suppose it was the most ‘traumatized’ by the procedure (gulp-necrotic-breast-muscle-tissue-removal-gulp) but UGH

I know it doesn’t help that we’re going to be rocking the mid-70’s here for the next 2-3 days and I can’t let her out or get wet. Like even if I put her outside but in her little compound, the soil is still super moist (flooding in our region) and she’d probably HAVE to be hosed down to get the muck off of her when she were done.

I’ve not put Patty out there during this whole ordeal because I don’t want either of them squawking their heads off/stressed.

It’s seriously a downer of grand proportions. :hit

Annnnd (clearly, at this point, it’s obvious that I’m avoiding housework) Grumpy and I gave the baby doodles their first swim time! ❤️

Video attached as well as a couple of pics for the after effect (him snuggling them in a towel, him blow drying the little babies and then their back to their fluff ball selves).

T-minus 6 hours until the Cayugas!

P.S. Doodle baby introductions begin at 4:23 minute mark.

Okay guys; I posted in the Emergencies/Urgent/Illnesses/Ailments/Cures section. It’s been an hour and no response yet.

The issue doesn’t SEEM to be life or death but I’m concerned about waiting too long to treat what may be any issues. If any of you guys are lurking on this thread, would you mind peeping my other post?

Appreciate you all ❤️

I see you got help!!

Did I read in a past post that we are going to start a new thread about your new ducklings?

Yeah I started a couple of different posts about the newbies. One was to ease my nerves that I did, indeed, have everything I needed for the task.

The other one is for my poor little Cayugas (hatched Monday, arrived yesterday) and the ins and outs of having one potentially be sick. The newbies, however, don’t have their very own updates thread like OG (LOL).

Should I start one? And which category would it go under?

UPDATES::

I’ve made a little* video outlining the living quarters of my two Pekin, a brief description of my routine and some generalized info. OG and Patty are in it, so you know... it’s gonna be great ❤️ :)

* It’s 8 minutes but figured it’d be helpful for anyone who had to hide/stash a duck on their back porch LOL!!!

And as for OG, the wipe and swipe I completed 5 minutes ago I’ve also done a little video (that one *is* little LOL) to show you what her status is (and how I’m doing it on my own) and the scabby wound in question. The big thick scab chunk (it’s really almost identical to size and depth of originating necrotic death hole of doom) has lifted almost a 1/4” off of its right side (not the greatest view on video) but I’m not gonn force it, but I’m making sure to wipe on top and underneath the flap of scab and applying the ointment the same way.

I’m not a YouTuber, didn’t even have an account until joining BYC, but I’m finding that some of these videos help reduce typing AND get better/more thorough understanding of the views/topics. Trying to take a selfie with a duck, while one handed, but also showing the wound in detail, proves difficult. At least with the video, you can pause and peek LOL
