Don't have time to read everything right now but checked the videos and she looks adorable in her little outfit. And glad things went smoothly.

Its posible that she might manage to wiggle it up off her wings, hopefully not but if she does you could probably cut a slit for her feet to go though so when she wiggles around and trys to flap, the back of her legs keeps it from riding up. She looks pretty snug in it though so I don't think you'll have a problem, just throwing the idea out there in case you run into problems. :)

And! On top of the awesomeness that is OG’s existence, the duck coop has been completed and the girls are transitioning into it today!

Here’s pics of the finished product where the coop ramp goes right down into the duck run and from there they are right in front of the pond. On days that they play in pond and if there’s something unsafe (hawk, snake) going on, I can rush them back into coop/run quickly.

They’re spending their first night in it tonight ❤️❤️

Thanks for all the positive OG support and compliments. It’s really made my day (so far) to be able to finish the coop and get the big girls in it.

I confirmed that I don’t have to do the wipe and swipe treatment on OG so the only thing I’m supposed to stay focused on is keeping her wound dry and preventing wing flaps.

So that gave me (once I confirmed that the hose was working) the courage to go ahead and cut my umbilical cord with the girls.

I’ve checked on their coop three times since sunset (which was only about 2 hours ago) because I’m nervous LOL

I know they’re super perfect but just in case ;)

The turkey littles will earn themselves a new view as of tomorrow. I will be shuckin all the bedding/straw out of the screened in porch, power washing for a millennia I’m certain, but then the brooder will go out there. It still has the plastic over the screens so I liken the temp to that of inside a garage. And since they’re still going to have their heat lamp, I am hoping all will be well.

This way I don’t have duck poop stink I’m battling in my living room AND they’ll start a safe introduction to the outdoor sounds of the night. I’m certain they don’t need to be taught the sounds, they’re ducks: they know all sounds are danger danger LOL

But I figure it’s a nice way to start working, safely, towards their independence.

Because I should be introducing them to Patty and OG soon. I intend to start letting them have (divided) mingle time in the next couple of weeks.

I’d like to wait until OG’s follow-up is through but since they’ll be separated anyways, I don’t figure there’s any harm potential for OG to actually worry about.

In fact, I’m more worried about the little turkeys scaring the crap out of her LOL

Your coop is awesome, I am sure your girls will all love it I bet OG and Patty did their first night out.

You have such a lovely place to have water fowl too. Just beautiful

Now I don't know how hot it gets in Indiana but it sure does get hot here and not having windows in your house will make it very hot for your girls when closed up. You might want to cut some windows in you could put what you cut out on hinges so you can close them when needed but they really need some good air flow in their house.

Wanted to acknowledge your absolutely valid and wonderful point.

There’s quite a bit of ventilation between the coop walls and the roof but, ironically to your post, we intend to cut some smaller windows into the side (I’m thinking one or two each side). It will be covered with mesh on the outside and the window door will be able to be latched open or closed. We were going to wait until sometime in May to tackle that job. The coop only has direct sun for half of the day right now and we are still battling frost warning nights (despite 70-80 days). Figured once we’re past threat of frost, I’ll do the windows. That also gives my step-dad some time to get past opening weekend where his cabin is. He’s out there all this week opening up and in-wintering everything. He said when he comes back, he and I are going to put up some hardware cloth in the roofing eaves where something could potentially try and climb in. So we have those two projects to complete still.
