Hi, I might sound stupid, I know this is a question I should be able to google, but I couldn’t find any answers. No matter what search variable I used, nothing. So, what would the odds of 8/8 poults surviving with a first time momma? My girl recently hatched her poults and so far (the first ones hatched on against 18th) the babies have seemed great and she’s been doing a good job. But what odds should I expect? How many should I be prepared to lose?

I doubt you would be able to Google that answer.

If the hen and her poults are separated in a secure place away from the general population, 100% survival is common.

If the hen and her poults are in the general population from the start but secure from predators, she will lose a few early on. She could even lose them all if the tom decides to kill them.

If the hen and her poults are free ranging without protection from predators a 40% to 50% survival rate is good with the loss of both the hen and all the poults a strong possibility.

Just had a wild hen come through with 6 young of the year. No way to know what size her original clutch was but making it through all the predators around here with 6 poults is really good.

I loose about a third to coccidiosis some years, another third to half to predators.
Lost one poult, hatched May first, yesterday to GH owls. The idiots want to roost in the trees. I have 3 hens that I make sure are in the coops at night. Its too hard to play wack a mole with over 20 turkeys.
