How adorable that he coos for his blow dry! I think it will get much better once that scabby thing is out. Keep up the soaking and ointment. I’d seriously have a hard time not digging at that thing myself!

Once the scab is soft enough to come off, you will have to squeeze out the pus. Chicken pus is not gooey, but rather cheese like and hard. If you like Dr. Pimple Popper, this won’t be difficult for you to stomach! 
You may even have to dig it out with sterile tweezers. Good luck and continue to keep us posted.

It’s a great thing that he likes his treatments makes it a thousand times less stressful for both of you.
That reminds me of a huge bumble ... do you have a plan if that comes out. What kind of first aid items do you have? The ring of skin/tissue around it looks like it wouldn’t have much blood supply. Rather than pick it how about brushing it with a toothbrush. To see if you could work the edges loose. The yellow looks like typical chicken pus. I’ve never seen or experienced something like his wound. I’m just throwing ideas at ya.

That is so cute that he like the blow dryer. Once the scab is soft enough, I would try to pick it off and start digging. Take a picture of what you find. We love gory pictures. YouTube has some really gross pictures of squeezing pus out of chicken eyes—yuck!

I’m not a fan of the toothbrush method in this application. If it’s a breast “bumble”, I wouldn’t want the bristles creating microabrasions on healthy skin and spreading around a staph infection.
In my opinion, (just mho) I think that black plug is likely half-in/half-out of the wound. Might be as big or bigger in the inside as it is on the outside.
The sooner you get rid of it and clean out the goop that you might find inside, the better.
A scalpel, x-acto knife or sterilized sharp slant-edged tweezers run around the lower lip of the plug might work it loose and let you make progress on healing before more damage is done to the skin.
Be ready with some old clean towels, a syringe for flushing out the cavity, betadine for flushing , triple antibiotic ointment, gauze pads, 4 inch wide vet wrap.

Day 3 Update: Epsom salt soak 20 min. We worked at the scabby thing, but really very attached. However, one small edge seems to be coming up a bit, so maybe tomorrow we will have some more progress. I did not feel it was time to yank it off, as it seemed I could be doing more damage if I did that. I did buy betadine liquid, some vet wrap (black color), sterile saline. No one of 3 stores I went to had anything like a scalpel (Walgreens, Walmart, TSC), another reason I held off on trying to be too aggressive as I may need an Xacto knife and will need to get my tweezers - and both need to be sterilized. Assume boil for 10 min to sterilize? Heat in oven (dry heat)?
The affected area looks a bit better. It does not look worse, for sure. It doesn't even seem inflamed. It is not warm to the touch, and the rooster does not flinch at all when we touch or manipulate this thing. After the soak and trying to manipulate it to figure out if we could go farther, we simply gave him a blow dry and then applied the wound ointment (triple antibiotic ointment) Here are pics from today at 2 angles:

Wow! Looking Good @Acre4Me ! All that yellow stuff looks to be pus! Another time soaking should do the trick before getting alll that infection out!

I did look in the cattle section, but didn't see any. However, didn't ask anyone either. Actually, the only thing I asked them is when they were getting chicks in - their chick bins were all set up, so I had to ask!
