I'm just curious what everyone's favorite breed of chicken is. Personally I want a chicken for an egg layer but I would also prefer one that is more friendly, and unique looking like the Appenzeller Spitzhauben or Booted or Brabanter.

I like Silkies and Buff Orpingtons

Asking what my favorite chicken breed is like asking who's your favorite parent, for me. Every breed has so many good qualities. But my top three are Barred Rocks, Red/Black Sex-Links, and White Leghorns. All are good layers, hardy, and sweet. If you take egg production seriously, White Leghorns are the way to go, but Sex-Links also lay well if you want brown eggs. Barred Rocks are also good layers, and are very docile and sweet.

I was thinking about a silkie. I heard they can get broody but if mine did I would probably just try to get hatching eggs for it to sit on.

I recommend looking into Langshans. They're really the ultimate homesteading fowl. They're good egg layers, decent eating, super hardy, steady personality, happy to hatch and raise their own for you, very adaptable to all climates and conditions, be it confined pens or ranging. Oh and they're completely breathtaking when bred properly and it's not unusual for a good male to reach 30" in height by the time he stops growing, the hens stand tall and statuesque as well.
