What Special Treat or Yummy Did Your Flock Get Today?

I get a box of maggots from the fishing store every week. A few of these will see my Marans running to me from all over the garden! They're like sweets to children. I really think I could take my hens out in the forest or fields and when it was time to go home I'd whistle, shake the box of maggots and they'd come running and follow me home. I really ought to try it!!!

Today the girls got radish greens that had bolted, lemon balm that was creeping out of it's spot, some beet greens, and a variety of weeds that I pulled. They're funny, they see me coming across the yard with an armful and by the time I reach the run everyone is doing the ice cream dance in front of the door.

It is in the 90;s here so they got watermelon

Gave them a few generous handfuls of wild raspberries on the way to the coop. Also, some flowering clover and a piece of willow (we'll see how well the willow goes over--something new).

They go nuts over the raspberries!

A chunk of watermelon. It is yummie and helps keep them hydrated.

Just gave our's ice cold grapes and tomatoes. They can't get enough!!

I don't know if my chickens would get grapes at $6 a lb here today.

I gave mine some leftover beef pot pie this morning, and my husband took a bowl of cheese I was shredding (didn't see the cheese) and put a venison steak in it to defrost. So they got bloody cheese. LOL

I must have loooked for that cheese for an hour in the kitchen and truly thought the dogs must have eaten it.

So far I have been keeping my chicks on a pretty tame diet. They just turned 6 weeks today but they sure do know what alfalfa leaves are! They will climb up on my hand and push each other out of the way to get to them.

today mine got the skins and a good chunk of the inside of several cucumbers and a squash that I peeled.

Mine got Kolrabi leaves for the first time and didn't seem to appreciated them too much.

They also got the papaya pips - loved those!
