What Special Treat or Yummy Did Your Flock Get Today?

leftover scalloped potaotes, lettuce heel, 1/2 of a cauliflower that was getting just a bit old, leftover pasta salad. I feed my birdies everything the kids don't like... Dinner is dinner. The kids have 1.5 hours to eat, and whatever they don't like goes to the chickens, and the kids wait until the next meal time. If they are hungry in between they get a slice of wheat bread or celery/carrots... Usually, the birds have about 1/2 cup total of treats to share between the 4 of them. Today was about 2.5 cups because the kids HATED the potatoes.

I mixed up some more scratch today (I mill my own). It had millet, sunflower seeds, hard red wheat, flax seeds, sesame seeds, lentils, yellow peas, quinoa, oats, and some other grains that I can't really remember.

They usually stay in their run but I want to expand it because I feel it's just a little too small. So, I have a pvc and plastic garden netting thing me and DH made to keep cats out of my garden. I used it as a big chicken playpen and let them onto some fresh grass. They were in chicken heaven! Fresh grass, new bugs and sunshine!

I will often give them scrambled eggs, kefir and whatever kitchen scraps are available. I did read someone gave their Kombucha scoby to their hens and I think I'll try that when I do up a new batch.

Down here in LA, (lower Allerbammer) the heat is oppresive and our flock
fades out in late afternoon.

We try to keep them hydrated with seedless grapes, watermelon, blueberries(fresh off our own shrub)
blackberries(also our own shrub), yogurt, iced water and other fruits.

Watching them with yogurt on their beaks is to funny, it reminds me of the "got milk" campaign

Good mama...same with mine and she eats everything at age 22. If it doesn't eat her, she'll eat it. None of this "what do you want for dinner crap"...I fixed it and we ate it...period.

this morning they got a bunch of pieces that i had trimmed off the fillets of the fish i caught lastnite. i had placed them in the fridge overnite so the meat was nice and cold when i tossed it into the run. the chickens went crazy for it, i guess they love sushi!!!!!!!
