Mine love watermellons and canteloupe (they got a cantaloupe today.)

What do you give them for treats when it gets warmer?

Leftover wild rice for the brooder babies, more unwanted dog food for the free rangers. And since I completely cleaned out and dismantled one of the pens, they also got a lot of bugs (wood lice, darkling beetles, crickets, etc) and small earthworms.

Melons, cucumbers, summer squash, tomatoes all cut in half. When it got really hot, I froze scratch and shredded veggies in a large block of ice for them and put it in a pan for them to pick at and stand near to cool off.

Oops i ment when it gets cooler. We never get very many cold days may have 1-2 freezing nights but thats generally all.

Well. First they got some strawberries. Later, I collected some worms and grubs...Oh, my! And when I was tilling a patch where I'd put lawn clippings, I decapitated a small grass snake - the piece was about 6" - 7" long and threw it in the run. I thought they'd peck it about (I know chickens will kill snakes), but one of my BR's grabbed it and the girls played keep away for about a minute, and then she ate it, still wiggling! OMG!

Today it was BOSS and grass clippings. The geese appreciated the clippings the most...they were from an area where they aren't allowed (hence, I had to mow) so there was probably lots of weed seeds and bugs mixed in.

:D Going for the more nutrient-dense items as opposed to the more hydrating offerings. So they have the energy to generate heat. I did buy a bag of rolled oats recently, so they may get some nice warm oatmeal on occasion (with added items such as mealies, dried fruit, etc.).

Today was strawberry and cucumber day! Our warehouse manager gives me any fruits or vegetables that go bad to give to my chickens.
