What's so special about Silkies? [got them!]

>_<
They are adorable.
This thread has been hilarious to me, just watching your opinion change has been great.
I hope they continue to make you happy!

i like silkies for thier personality. and don't say one thing against my silkie roo, raven, because he is head bird and will put you in your place! jk, actually he's never attacked or pecked anyone or gotten in a fight in his life! even chickens who don't know him automatically respect him. they make amazing pets and showbirds because they are easy to handle and generally one of the friendliest types of chicken. also, despite thier odd looks, they are one of the oldest breeds around, japenese in origin, and were once prized for the supposed medicinal qualities of thier black skin, muscle and bones. true, nowadays they are almost purly ornamental, but they are extremely reliable broodies with the most natural brooding instinct of almost any chicken. they are sometimes used by conservationists to hatch rare birds because the hatch-rate under a good broody is much higher than that of an incubator. you don't have to like them, i suppose, but you have to respect them. they are much more useful in my opinion than any well-bred poodle!

I have a white silkie, And am going to get a partridge, a splash, and a black lavender split. I am glad that you now have silkies when at first you were wondering why everyone else has them. lol, they are very addicting. And I personally think that they are the cutest chick out there.

YAY!! I'm glad that so many people have been happy with Silkies, because I'm getting one soon...

SED is giving me one. He also was nice enough to incubate my broody's eggs because I don't have a brooder!!!!

SO cute!!! I just got a yr old Silkie hen last week, and I am quite entertained by the sounds she makes. She sounds more like my cats than a chicken!
