Same situations at my house. I watch my chicks-pullets at 13 weeks now every hour it seems to see if I’m going to need to bring them in the house. They have made it outside in the worst of the heat that could be thrown at them I feel like though and as they have been tested they have passed and succeeded well in this terrible heat. Our temps have gone as high as 113 I believe with heat indices in the shade being very high as up to 106 or more. That is awful. I have misted my pullets with the water hose and they didn’t like it but they got it anyway because they needed and got over being mad at Mama. I also spray their run area every day where they like to dig down a cool moist spot to lay in and nap when it’s hot in the afternoons. They get so comfortable in this particular spot I have lost them on my chick cam because they have actually turned upside down in their. They are so funny looking laying upside down asleep in the cool dirt! Crazy chickens. One of them is always on guard duty though while the rest are napping upside down though. Too funny. The heat this summer has been one to remember. I have lived in MS all my life so I have seen all of them but a few as really hot but this one and las year take the cake on many of them. This year especially. Y’all take care in it.Texas 12:20am temp 84, heat index 90 (we hit 102 today w 109 heat index) and humidity is 56%. Can you say yuck?! Had to bring 2 pullets into the house. They just were not going to make it otherwise and we even hosed down the run for them. The others found much joy in playing in the cool mud though! LoL
