When did your hen start laying

Our BCM laid her first egg on Halloween, at just under 7 months or 29 and a half weeks. Our EE and sex-links laid at 5 months (21 weeks), our Buff Orp at 6 months (27 weeks) and our Dorking at 7 months (30 and half weeks). The wait seemed like forever but they are all now laying beautiful eggs!

The chocolate eggs are from our Marans of course, the light blue-green from our EE, the light pinkish brown are our Buff Orpington's, the large caramel ones from our Golden Buff/Sex-Link and the little white one on the lid is my husband's Silver Grey Dorking's. All our girls are from Meyer Hatchery.

My girls are 6 months old and none of them have laid yet, but my friends girls are are we ordered them together...anyone have any guesses as to why? I have 2 Easter eggers and a barred rock.

Here's the link:

She doesn't have the darkest possible eggs, but they're pretty nice.

Here's a pic taken a week ago, both the Wilma the BCM and Emma the SS laid weird eggs that day (on the right). The color looks a lot lighter in pictures than it does with the naked eye, though.

Your days are getting shorter. You're at 9h 44min today, for optimal laying people usually suggest between 14-16 hours of light per day. That does burn out the birds quicker, though. But without added light, you might have to wait until spring for eggs, they'll start laying when the days start getting longer again. Might be some differences in nutrients too, and stress levels, and as as stated, all birds are still individuals.
