I am pretty sure it's been well over a month since my 2 EE's and Welsummer stopped laying to molt. All feathers are back in now and everyone looks good. I have solar rope lights in the coop...not the brightest, but hey, it's free light! Last winter was their first winter and they laid straight through with those lights. My 2 Barred Rocks didn't noticbly molt like the others and they are still laying...I get 1 or 2 eggs daily. Really killed me during holiday baking! I was so tempted to buy eggs....kept calculating what I needed to keep baking and waiting days inbetween to stock up! Wish this strike would be over soon!!! How long does this usually last?

I got 3 eggs out of 11 chickens yesterday for the first time since mid-October! My 7 Welsummers mostly quit laying the end of August, with my last brown egg coming on Oct. 10th. My 4 EEs continued until mid-October & then in Nov. I was down to 0 for a week before the EEs started up again. Yesterday it was 2 green & 1 brown, so the winter solstice did it again! I do have a light & they are in their second laying season. The Welsummers have been fully feathered for almost 2 months & they are finally getting back to business. My 4 EEs kept me in just enough eggs for holiday baking. Those Welsummers better make up for it soon!

would they lay will while being locked in a confined space used to being free becouse i cant leave them out becouse of mink attacks

Wooohooo... The other EE started laying, thought so yesterday but knew for sure when I went out this morning and two pastel blue eggs were in the box along side a brown egg from the BA that started laying again the other day.... Now I can stop buying eggs hopefully!!

My Welsummer is the worst layer of all the ones I have. And she was broody and hatched chicks in the spring so spent most of the year out of commission! hahaha She was a good mom, though and we love her. Just got my 2 Barred Rock eggs of the day....really wish the EE's would get back in the game!!!! I know how to butcher now...so if they don't produce they can go in the freezer with the boys! hahaha

Oh that could be the problem??? But you need to do what you need to do! You live in Ireland? Always wanted to visit! I have family there! My mom and brother just visited there! Beautiful country!
