When will she give birth

I will address what I said earlier, in its own separate post.

Animal abuse is not based on, or limited to physical exploitation. Abuse can be defined as a lack of care, wether that be neglect of feeding, health, or in this dogs case, sexual health/limitations. While it isn’t considering abuse for an animal to be left un neutered/spayed, it is considered (in my eyes at least) to be abuse if an animal is being allowed to inbreed, or be accidentally bred in a situation where it could have been avoided. Neutering (and spaying) your animals is not done only to control population, but it is also to prevent health issues In the animal who is being bred/breeding. A female dog/cat, can develop serious problems if allowed to be bred without supervision or knowing the current status of health on either animal. Animals who are inbred, are putting their offspring at risk of endless health issues. Dogs who are accidentally impregnated are not uncommonly neglected, euthanized, or left to die/killed (rarely.) I believe that the owners of this dog have no right to own animals that they cannot take care of. They are neglecting (therefore abusing) their dogs by allowing them to inbreed, and leaving them unfixed. If you cannot afford to neuter your animals, you cannot afford to keep them at all. You then cannot afford to care for accidental offspring. My concern is that these dogs are afraid of their owners. Why would that be? My guess would be physical abuse, in which case, these neglected and abused dogs, should not be left with these people. @JadeFarms, I wouldn’t hesitate to try and convince your parents to call someone on this. They would have to admit that the situation that these neglected dogs are in, is completely not suitable and the owners should no longer be allowed to keep them. That or, you should try and get them fixed. Many places where I am will do it free, but that isn’t common. Some events will hold free, or discounted neuter surgeries for spays and neuters. I understand that that’s almost never an option though, and paying for it all would be the only way. I would advise you, however, to neuter and spay all the puppies that are born, to prevent any possible health issues that could worsen their health that has already been damaged by the inbreeding. You would do this of course when they are old enough, but it would tremendously help the lives of these puppies and prevent situations like that from happening again. As for the dogs current owners, try to convince your parents to call someone. I would really hate to see this neglect to continue. Do you think there is a possibility these dogs are being physically abused as well? By the way you say the mother dog is afraid of them, I have reason to believe it’s quite possible.

To wrap this up, I want to tell everyone who knows of a situation like this, that animal abuse is not limited to physical exploitation. Abuse can be neglect, starvation, neglecting deteriorating health, Inbreeding, overfeeding, drugging, and a few more things. If you know of an animal, who is in a situation of abuse, please do not hesitate to take action. It may just be one animal, but it’s also a life.
I agree with everything. My friend and I have both tried to convince my parent he won’t call anyone. I’m gonna see if she can talk to her father but he might not do anything so she’s my only hope.

The dog was impregnated by her father/brothers, the neighbors are sketchy, mean, and came over and cussed at a minor for trying to help this poor dog....
We don’t have all the info, but this dog is clearly in a bad situation at her legal home.
There are 3 sides to every story. The neighbors, the minors, and the truth...

I know you agree with me, and I know you only want to help this dog and the other dogs. Reporting animal abuse can be risky, and is not always someone favorite thing to do, but I’m glad your trying to take action and hopefully bring a better life onto all of these dogs.

are you suspicious of physical abuse? Or do you think it’s limited to neglect.

As I mentioned in my first post, given the information provided, if I were in the same situation, I would do as I said. Your situation is different than mine. Your location and the laws surrounding animals will be different.

however. The concerns about the puppies all circles back to the legality of it all. I’m sorry guys, I get where you’re all coming from with what the best situation would be for the dogs themselves, but you get yourselves into hot water really fast if you don’t address those things. I’ve seen some pretty horrible things and even the professionals need to go through the right channels. In some cases those channels are to report the people that are neglectful or abusing the animal(s) but it gets dicey. (I work at a vet clinic where we used to get a LOT of backyard breeders/I didn’t know they’d mate with their brother/sister, etc. Along with a lot of those borderline abuse/neglect cases that you’re hesitant to report. Cuz you know, some of those people are so shady that... you don’t know if you personally would be safe if you made the call.) you have to look at all the repercussions surrounding any of your actions in a case like this. In some instances, the original owners of animals have been willing to relinquish their ownership because they don’t really want the problem. That may be the case if something goes wrong. My dog became mine because she refused to stay home, not because she didn’t like it there but she’s a bad runner, and then was hit by a car and brought in. They didn’t want to keep her and deal with it, so they signed her over to me. 🤷🏼‍♀️

But I’m not joking about having a plan in place with your parents helping in making the final decisions here. If something goes wrong and this dog needs help, what are you going to do? Are you going to fork over thousands of dollars to a vet for surgery if it comes down to it(provided you can somehow avoid the sticky ownership issue) to have the actual owner then turn around and demand their dog, and the puppies, back? Again, I’m not being a downer, I’m being realistic. Some inbred puppies can be fetal monsters, causing the need for a c-section, or have other issues requiring a lot more care (or euthanasia). We once euthanized an entire litter that had all kinds of horrible deformities. A brother/sister pairing. Again, are you prepared and able to deal with these things?

chances are she’ll be perfectly fine, puppies will be fine, actual owners won’t care. But I sure wouldn’t be detaining an animal that isn’t mine that has already caused problems with the legal owner. Let her come around, give her a space if she wants it, but keep your nose clean and don’t create more problems for yourself. Let her have her puppies, don’t say anything unless asked, and don’t shoot yourself in the foot with any of it.
I work for a dog rescue and you cannot legally take someone’s dog regardless of the situation (unless you have the authority to do so)... that is considered theft of property.

They need to get an adult that cares about animal welfare if there’s actually a true problem. Get AC to take care of it.

So I agree with you...

Well they beat them with a stick if they do something they don’t want them to.

if their being beaten then thats cause to call animal control. i've helped with puppy birthing myself. when the time is right, you may need a warm towel, and a little baster. sometimes the mom isn't able to get all he fluid out of the pup's mouth, so a baster thats small enough to get in the mouth without hurting it (don't remember what their actually called) may just save the pup's life. the warm towel would then be used t gently warm and stimulate the pup. that being said, it doesn't always work.

I’ve had to help goat birth and this seems very similar.
